What would you do? 'I shot him with his own gun': Homeowner reflects on shooting intruder in Indy
Brent Smith says he had just returned home from the grocery store when he noticed a young man walking up to his house. He says he then saw the man pull a ski mask over his face.
Smith tells WRTV the incident happened so fast he didn't register what was happening until he had already been hit.
"He hit me in the head with his gun," Smith said. "I yelled out 'he is robbing me', thinking my neighbors would hear me."
There was a struggle for the attackers gun; it went off once. Then they exchanged gunfire, because the homeowner had his own gun.
The would-be attacker was hit multiple times, and died at the scene.
The homeowner was detained and questioned, but released.
The kid who got shot, and yes, 22-years-old is a kid, was wearing new Jordan sneakers. The homeowner found that disconcerting.
The first thing I noticed was the kid had on brand new Jordans. You're trying to rob me but you got brand new Jordans on man? I just don't get it.
Well, you can file this under, "He suffered a failure of the victim-selection process."
Self-defense is a human-right, and it appears to be your legal right in Indiana.
Any moment now the kid's family will see $$$ and tell everyone what a wonderful scholar he was, and demand compensation for all the future income he would have received as a doctor...or engineer ..or whatever.
