Or not, as the case may be. 18-year-old shot and killed during reported burglary in west Jefferson Co.
He was in the home uninvited. One of the residents discovered him, and he started to leave.
Authorities said [Charlei Angelo] Jordan began to leave the home, but was confronted by another person who was sleeping in a room near the exit. Witnesses said that shots were exchanged between Jordan and the second resident. Both were hit by gunfire. The male resident was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
I'm sure we will hear in the next few days, what a great guy he was, how his family loved him, and self-defense is unfair. Or we would hear all of that if this took place in a Blue City. (One of the constants in the universe is that relatives of dead people hate self-defense.)
But if he had simply chosen to abide by the law, if he hadn't undertaken to commit a burglary, he would probably be alive today. And since this took place in Alabama, and not in New Jersey, he should have known that there was a fair chance anyone he ran into would be armed for their own defense.
Self-defense is a human-right. Good Guys 1, Bad Guys 0.
