Drug Overdose Deaths in the US - Oregon Leads the Way

It just isn't the way we want to be going. The numbers are absolutely terrifying. Drug Overdose Mortality Update: Rates, Ages, and Geography, 1999-2022 (provisional)

Portland, Oregon shows how not to do it - decriminalizing deadly drugs means more deaths

Is anyone shocked by this?

The graphs tell it all. Click thru. But there are two points I will maker here.

First: The Crude Death Rate in the US for drug overdoses saw a 50 percent increase in 2 years.

That is a huge increase from 2019 to 2021 in drug overdose deaths.

The rise has been noticeable since about 2012, but in 2019 it skyrocketed.

And the second point is the geographic change. The state of Oregon saw a 143% increase in death rate for drug overdoses between 2019 and 2022, and the state of Washington is in second place with 131% increase in the death rate over the same period. Portland and Seattle are two progressive cities where they are making it easier to be a homeless drug addict. Is anyone shocked that they are seeing a tremendous increase in deaths?

  1. Drug overdoses are not a tragedy, but rather a logical conclusion. They may be unfortunate, but so are babies born with crooked backs, difference being the babies are not complicit with their condition.

    So solly....
