From Vlad Tepes - Maybe this fellow is on to something
Science, as practiced in 21st Century America, is not what most people think it is.
The white lab coat has been repurposed as camouflage gear for criminals and opportunists.
The pioneer of the sexual revolution, Alfred Kinsey, faked his “scientific” reports because he wanted to normalize pedophilia. His studies were based on data collected from the opinions of pedophiles and pederasts engaged in the sexual abuse of minors, some as young as 4 months old. His conclusions were no more than articulations of rape myths.
That link above has a couple of links where the "researchers" set out to prove a conclusion that they liked. This should not be a surprise, because that is how communism approaches research.
Also, people tend to think of science as a pure endeavor, and scientists as priests of knowledge. In reality science is an endeavor undertaken by people, and that means it is political. People have pet positions and theories, and are loathe to give them up, even when they don't work very well.
Or, what was the science behind wearing masks, and 6 ft of social distancing? Why did the percentage of COVID vaccine effectiveness drop from 100 percent to 90 percent to 80 percent to whatever it is today
I would be more accepting of mainstream Science™ today, if the conclusions didn't so often come to "give up your freedom."
This is not a new phenomenon of course. Back in 2016 I wrote a post on the topic of Science™ destroying itself. “Einstein, We Have a Problem” – The problem with so much science today is it isn’t true
That post referenced an article at The New Atlantis: Saving Science.
This deals, somewhat, with the number of "research papers" which published the results of studies that could not be replicated by other researchers.
Science, pride of modernity, our one source of objective knowledge, is in deep trouble. Stoked by fifty years of growing public investments, scientists are more productive than ever, pouring out millions of articles in thousands of journals covering an ever-expanding array of fields and phenomena. But much of this supposed knowledge is turning out to be contestable, unreliable, unusable, or flat-out wrong. From metastatic cancer to climate change to growth economics to dietary standards, science that is supposed to yield clarity and solutions is in many instances leading instead to contradiction, controversy, and confusion. Along the way it is also undermining the four-hundred-year-old idea that wise human action can be built on a foundation of independently verifiable truths. Science is trapped in a self-destructive vortex; to escape, it will have to abdicate its protected political status and embrace both its limits and its accountability to the rest of society.
I can recommend the article at The New Atlantis.
As uncovered in document from a large sugar company, three Harvard professors took over fifty thousand dollars each to support the theory that eating fat and cholesterol rather that sugar. In 1967 one of these men became head of the FDA. People are still suffering from these lies, which are taught and believed today. Don't even get me started on the walking fraud that was Ancil Keys.
ReplyDeleteNone of this is new. In the 1800s top scientists were very resistant to the idea of sterile wound treatment and the germ theory of disease. How many died because of this?
