Nothing has changed; criminals are not being charged. #58: Gun charges approved, murder charges rejected in death of teen found fatally shot in the South Loop - CWB Chicago
Cook County prosecutors last week rejected murder charges against an 18-year-old man who was allegedly caught on video as he fired a gun into a car during a clash that left a 17-year-old boy dead last fall. But they did approve a felony gun charge against Tony Pearson, arguing that it was illegal for him to have the gun that he was seen shooting.
Why not press murder charges if you have him on video? Because Chicago doesn't believe in prosecuting criminals. That would be unfair.
As for the "#58," that is home many people in 2022 committed murder, or attempted murder, or shooting, or trying to shoot someone while out on bail for a felony offense. CWB Chicago is keeping score, because the judge responsible for the bail "system" once said that he knew of no "bad outcomes." I'd say that 102 victims, or the families of the 26 people who died at the hands of people on bail in 2022, might disagree with him.
It really was a wonderful city. As HeyJackass! has pointed out, it is turning into Gotham City, without (so far) a caped crime fighter.
