Rest in Peace.
Has he been forgotten? It seems that way. Harry Belafonte, Calypso King Who Worked for African-American Rights, Dies at 96
Singer, actor, producer and activist Harry Belafonte, who spawned a calypso craze in the U.S. with his music and blazed new trails for African-American performers, has died at his Manhattan home, according to the New York Times. He was 96.
This song is "Jamaica Farewell" by Harry Belafonte. I'm sure that when this spreads a bit, we will hear a lot of "Day-O," but I'm not sure I ever liked that song; it certainly is not his best.
He's a "good" communist now.
ReplyDeleteIf I only listened to music produced by artists whose politics I agreed with, I would have a handful of Country and Western singers to listen too, because as the Dixie Chicks proved, even C&W is full of socialists and others who hate America.
DeleteOh, and I hope someone spits on your grave as well.
