Who could have predicted this? Anyone with two brain cells to rub together, that's who. Bud Light suffers bloodbath as longtime and loyal consumers revolt against transgender campaign | Fox Business
It will be a while before we have any real statistics, and Anheuser-Busch will do all in their power to delay the release of the statistics. In the meantime, we can bask in the glory of anecdote, and the impact on specific bars from around the country. If you click thru you will find a few.
But even Fitter’s bar witnessed a catastrophic decrease in sales of the hometown suds among loyal and local consumers this week.
Sales of Anheuser-Busch bottled products dropped 30% over the past week, while draught beer plummeted 50%, the owner said.
That is not a small percentage, even if it is only one bar. One more of the examples (click thru for the rest.)
Bud Light's decision to dive into the culture wars was a "bad decision" that defied "virtually every rule in building brands and marketing," a national beer-industry analyst told FOX Business.
He cited a nightmare scenario for Bud Light sales reps in Texas, where the brand has for years has sponsored a large weekly dart league with 100-plus players each Thursday night.
The bar typically sells though three kegs of Bud Light at the event — a total of 495 12-ounce pours.
The bar sold only four 12-ounce Bud Light bottles this week, as the dart players held a mass protest against their league sponsor.
I can imagine this scenario reverberating around the country for a few weeks, with people ordering Bud Light in a bar being teased by the other patrons over their support of Mulvaney. And a few weeks is all it takes; once people switch beers they will be reluctant to go back.
I actually know people who work or worked (some are retired) with large backhoes and excavators, people who maintain our electrical infrastructure, and people who use jack hammers. I know at least one plumber, diesel mechanics, and cops, as well as truck drivers. While I haven't talked to any of them about this Mulvaney incident in particular, I can guess how they would react.
Anyone who has ever spent time talking to a truck driver, or an electrician, who just wants to do their job and support their family - yes, that is still a thing in parts of America - would know how they would react. Of course the marketing geniuses can't be bothered to talk to actual Americans. The people who make up "The basket of deplorables" are not worth their notice.
The VP of marketing who oversaw this disaster? That would be Alissa Heinerscheid. She is a graduate of Harvard, and the Wharton School of business at the University of Pennsylvania. My guess is that she has never spoken to an actual customer who drank Bud Light. (See the basket of deplorables, above.)
OK fine. Welcome to the world of unintended consequences. The first female VP of Bud Light may just be the LAST female VP of Bud Light.
