The National Security Agency has decided to weigh in on the subject of the security of your home WiFi network. NSA Releases Best Practices For Securing Your Home Network. I would say this applies to your small business/office network as well.
Several high profile hacks would likely have been eliminated if some of these recommendations would have been followed, including the most recent hack of LastPass, the password manager.
“In the age of telework, your home network can be used as an access point for nation-state actors and cybercriminals to steal sensitive information,” said Neal Ziring, NSA Cybersecurity Technical Director. “We can minimize this risk by securing our devices and networks, and through safe online behavior.”
The guide includes recommendations for securing routing devices, implementing wireless network segmentation, ensuring confidentiality during telework, and more.

Help protect yourself, your family, and your work by practicing cybersecurity-aware behaviors, observing some basic configuration guidelines, and implementing the following mitigations on your home network.
Some of the things covered are:
- Upgrade to a modern operating system and keep it up-to-date
- Secure routing devices and keep them up-to-date
- Implement WPA3 or WPA2 on the wireless network
It isn't long, and the items are not difficult do, like make sure your router is running the most recent version of the software from the manufacturer.
