The Cancel Mob Came for Larry Correia, and Failed

Politics is downstream of culture, and the Woke scolds have been trying, and in too many cases succeeding, in eliminating all conservative voices from every part of culture, from the ivory tower, to movie studios on down. And your vocabulary expanding definition of the day. (More on that later.)

In this case the woke mob wanted to exclude a conservative, straight, white male, and *** GASP *** gun owner from MarsCon, a science fiction convention held every year in or around Virginia Beach, VA. Almost as soon as Larry Correia, author of the Monster Hunter International series, was announced as Guest of Honor, the cancel mob went to work.

I'll start with the result: The Woke scolds failed in this instance. Monster Hunter Nation: The MarsCon matter is settled.

MarsCon did not cave to the cancel mob.

Hey MarsCon,

This is my Official Response to the Official Complaint filed by Madison Matricula Roberts about how I’m a terrible mean bad person for responding to the angry mob (of about half a dozen people) who think I have no business being invited as the Guest of Honor at your event. I’ll leave the original complaint from Madison in italics. My responses will be in bold.

After I send this to you, I’m also going to post all my stuff publicly as I usually do in situations like this, because sunlight is the best disinfectant. I will also be very blunt in my response and include some backstory which Madison conveniently leaves out, unlike my haters who prefer vague insinuations and pretending that each of these events occurs in a vacuum.

Like Amber Heard, Ms. Madison Roberts made a lot of vague accusations. She didn't expect that they would be examined in detail, she expected the accused to be buried and forgotten. LC didn't get buried, and he did respond.

Madison portrays herself as a victim. She is not. She is an accuser. We have the right to face our accusers.

As for your vocabulary lesson: CHORF.

Keeping in mind I’m not even the one who said that, CHORF is from here https://bradrtorgersen.blog/2015/03/31/chorf-its-a-word-now/ because in 2015, back when all the fans with the wrong politics were getting run out of WorldCon, people needed something to differentiate the cancel culture social justice warrior contingent from the old school SMOFs. “Cliquish, Holier-than-thou, Obnoxious, Reactionary, Fanatics” Because calling the perpetually offended, political lockstep, group who were always trying to get everyone who disagreed with them deplatformed, Smofs was insulting to the old school fans who just wanted to run cons and have a good time. So Chorf because internet shorthand for the angry social justice contingent of fandom which was continually complaining about “tone” while trying to boot out everyone who dared disagree with them.

That was so clever of me to provoke them into screeching outrage within a month of a new release with an announcement I had no control over about me agreeing to be a guest at an event a year from now.

I should probably pre-schedule their outrage for my next book releases in April and October more carefully.

As I stated at the outset, Politics is downstream of Culture, and for too long the Political Right has ignored culture. It was beneath them. It is only movies. It is only comic books. It is only science fiction novels. (They will all be screaming at TV sets later today because men, who they don't know and will never meet, who are wearing the wrong color jerseys are winning a football game, but that doesn't mean they aren't totally serious individuals. Totally above all those ridiculous things like Sci-Fi movies.)

The problem is that movies, and novels and even comic books have defined American popular culture for the past 50 years. And it is now almost totally in the hands of the Woke Scolds. (Or have you seen a Disney movie in the past 2 years?) People are starting to wake up to the fact that things need to change, but I'm not sure it is in time.
