2022 Wasn't When Hollywood Got Woke, Just the Year they Went Broke

Do we think that Hollywood will admit their failings? Of course not. It isn't their fault; it's yours, you racist, misogynist bastards! They are virtuous (virtue signalling anyway) upholders of all that is holy.

First we will look at Breitbart: Hollywood Lost More Than $500 Billion in Market Value in 2022

For Hollywood, 2022 was truly an annus horribilis.

Major studios, streamers, cable providers, and other media giants lost a combined $542 billion in market value in 2022, with left-wing studios the Walt Disney Co., Netflix, and Comcast accounting for the bulk of the bloodshed.

Now if you were a rational businessman, you might reconsider they course you had set over the past few years. They were blaming the pandemic and the lockdowns for the past few years, and in truth that hurt the studios and helped the streamers. When all you can do is stay home and watch TV, more choices for TV-watching seems like a good idea. But that isn't the case anymore. And people are sick of the Woke.

Netflix experienced an unprecedented two consecutive quarters of subscriber losses this year, which resulted in layoffs and cost-cutting across the board. For the year, the stock is down more than 50 percent.

Other big losers include Paramount Global, whose stock has dropped more than 40 percent, and Warner Bros. Discovery — the parent company of CNN — whose stock has tumbled more than 60 percent.

That is the worst year for the Disney stock since 1974. For those of you who don't pay attention to the stock market, 1973-1974 was a record-breaking horrible time for Wall Street. From January 1973 through 1974 the stock market entered a period of a substantial bear market. It lost about 50 percent of its value. Richard Nixon unpinned the last vestiges of the gold standard from the US dollar, and then he resigned after the Watergate break-in and that mess. The stock market overall was hammered, losing (I think) about 50 percent of its value.

And while there are those that will say Breitbart is a right-wing rag, no can say that about the cheer-leading squad known as Variety. (Pay no attention to the streaming services behind the curtain!)

Overall, domestic ticket sales plunged more than 30% in 2022 from pre-COVID levels and analysts expect that Stateside revenues will top out at just over $7.5 billion. That’s largely due to the fact that studios released 40 fewer films over the last 12 months than they did in 2019

Sorry, but that doesn't explain why people stayed away from Bros, Strange World, Lightyear, She Said, The Woman King, and probably a few others I can't name. Not when moviegoers flocked to see Top Gun: Maverick, and Avatar: The Way of Water (though less so for Avatar). Given a decent movie, fans would turn out. Give a woke screed, fans would tune out.
