The Decline of Law and Order in One Graph

Though you are going to have to click thru for the graph. Man shot inside Loop hotel overnight is neighborhood's 35th shooting victim of 2022 - CWB Chicago

There were a grand total of 13 shootings and homicides in the Loop from January 1, 2001, through December 31, 2009.

That's right. The Loop saw 13 shootings in 9 years. There were 19 shootings in 2020, and there were 25 last year. This year, so far, there have been 35 shootings in the Loop.

The Loop is the central business district of Chicago. City Hall is in the Loop, as is The Midwest Stock Exchange, the Chicago Board of Options Exchange, and the Chicago Board of Trade. I think that the Chicago Board of Options Exchange may actually be one block outside of the Loop, but I can't remember what the 'official' boundaries are.

The Loop is all of 1.58 sq mi (4.09 km2) according to the Wiki.

Anyway, click thru for the graph of shootings by year, for a visual representation of how law and order is disintegrating in our cities, as we watch.

Chicago really was a wonderful city, once upon a time.

NOTE: The link for the Board of Trade, above, will take you to a Wiki Media photo of the clock on the front of the CBoT building. The top of the building features a statue of Ceres, the Roman goddess of agriculture, but I find it uninteresting as a statue.
