The level of stupidity is matched only by the volume of "You must respect my authority!" Cops arrest legally blind man, mistaking folded cane for gun
They think the cane is a gun. He shows them that it is cane. They demand his ID, which, since there is no suspicion that he is committing a crime, they do not have the right to do in Florida. Then they go full tyrant.
“Why weren’t you using your stick? You don’t have to use your stick all the time?” a deputy asks.
“Not all the time,” Hodges replies and asks the female deputy for her badge number.
“You know what? Put him in jail for resisting,” an officer is heard saying at that point.
How dare you know your rights. How dare you not obey every illegal order. How dare you ask for their ID.
The Sheriff of Columbia County had the good sense to take action against the 2. Though that info isn't from the post article linked above.

A Florida man who is legally blind was walking home one day, minding his own business, when cops stopped him and arrested him for open carrying a gun, or a cane, or for the crime of being blind, or maybe it was for complaining when they illegally searched him. Honestly, it's all a bit fuzzy.
In the full version the gentleman says he walked to the courthouse for jury duty to be told no jury duty today. I'd say he probably made comments at the court house and the bailiffs didn't care for so they called there comrades in the Sheriffs Office to harass the man. The deputy knew he wasn't carrying as she took no action when he reached for his cane.
