The first phrase that comes mind, reading this story is, "First World Problems." Wild boars roaming, destroying parts of South Bay neighborhood
So a community in the San Francisco Bay area is having a problem with feral hogs. They are destroying vegetation, excuse me, landscaping, and they can be quite aggressive and attack pets, children and adults.
The solution is to get rid of the hogs. In Texas this would be cause for a barbecue. In California? Well, it's California.
With the water department saying it’s not their fault. And no clear word yet from state or country, one of the few solutions being floated is to corral the would pigs, and then because they can’t be released elsewhere, state law requires they be shot and killed.
"Which is a challenge for some of the neighbors who live around there," said [Chris Wood, president of the Holiday Lake Estates Homeowner’s Assoc.]
They want the problem to go somewhere else, and they want to have someone else deal with it, because as much as they hate the pigs, they don't want to kill them. Yeah, good luck with that.
How much bacon would you get from 50 feral hogs? Even if these people don't want to eat the meat, I bet you could donate a lot of protein to the local soup kitchens/food pantries/whatever after the way Farmers & Hunters Feeding the Hungry, or similar organizations do. But these are vegans and vegetarians, and would rather see people go hungry than hurt the pigs. Or something.
