Joe Jackson started his career in Post Punk. That's what the suits called New Wave; they hated Punk Rock so much they wanted to forget it existed. But he went on to do some jazz and some classical and other stuff.
But he felt that Rock was stagnating, and that MTV wasn't helping matters. So the ablum today's song comes from contains no guitars. In the long run that attitude would hurt his carreer, because in the 1980s, the record lables (though they were run by idiots) controlled everything. Piss them off at your own risk. The labels were run by idiots in the 1990s and in the 2000s and ... Or, why do you hate the music called "Pop" today?
This is "Breaking Us In Two" by Joe Jackson from his 1982 album Night and Day. It was included on his Greatest Hits album.
Joe Jackson has always been a favorite. I enjoyed his work in the 1980's
