That is not the criteria for self-defense. Truck theft suspect shot, Longmont homeowner arrested
A Longmont man faces charges including attempted second-degree murder after he shot a 13-year-old who was among several people he spotted attempting to enter his truck, according to Longmont Police Services (LPS).
In most cases, you have to be in fear of death or grave bodily injury, or someone else must be in danger of those things. Stealing your truck, or even just what it in your truck is not a valid reason to open fire. That is why you have insurance. It is only stuff.
Keep defunding police and voting in Soros DA's,and this is exactly how things will devolve. As society breaks down, all crime will be punished with the death penalty imposed by the selected victims. It will never get to a courtrooom. Throughout most of human history and prehistory, theft of stuff was punished by death.
ReplyDeleteI hope we haven't gotten there quite yet
DeleteIn Texas you can use deadly force in the protection of property. It's just not a good idea.

I would say it isn't moral. Unless we once again find ourselves living in a society up against famine every winter, where a beef cow or a few chickens make the difference between burying your children or your parents, and your family surviving until spring, it is only stuff.
DeleteAnd if you own a home you probably have some homeowners insurance. If they steal your vehicle you probably have some coverage. (If you only have liability that says you don't care if it disappears.)
Stuff - under the conditions that prevail in modern America - is not worth risking your life over, and not worth taking another life to defend. I know it is upsetting. But a lot of things in life are upsetting.
It is just stuff.
Oh, and if it is important stuff it shouldn't be left in your car or truck overnight anyway
You are completely and utterly wrong. What you just said is the same thing slow joe biden said when he said a little incursion into the ukraine was okay.
DeleteI don't see the two situations as being the same. But you be you.
DeleteIf I see someone stealing my car - not that anyone is going to steal that rust bucket - I will call the cops and the insurance company. Chances are, they are armed, and I am not going to risk my life for a car that is worth considerably less than $10,000. My life means more to me than the deduction on my auto insurance policy.
But like I said. If you want to risk your life for whatever the deductible is on your car insurance - I'm guessing it is less than $1000 go right ahead.
That is not analogous to what Russia is threatening to do to Ukraine, or what China is threatening to do to Taiwan, or what Germany did to Czechoslovakia in 1939...
What you are telling people is that it is okay to attack you, because you won't defend yourself. Same thing slow joe said, we won't defend anyone. By letting people steal your stuff you are perpetuating the problem with usa today. Relying on police is stupid, when seconds matter they are minutes away. Deductible? As you said you be you, I will continue to defend my family and myself. You keep on being you.
DeleteYou need to work on your reading comprehension. I said if I see someone stealing my stuff, I will call police.
DeleteIf you attack me, I will respond with lethal force.
And in most parts of the country where I have lived it is ONLY legal to respond to reasonable threats of death or grave bodily injury with lethal force. If you see someone breaking into your car, and you open fire, you are probably going to be in the same position that the guy in the original article linked above finds himself.
DeleteMaybe so, but at least i won't be in the position of "let the insurance company take care of it". All I'm saying is if you continue to let people steal your stuff, where will it stop? The whole world today is crazy because noone will stand up and say enough is enough.

I could go on, but since I didn't bound the search with a time, I am seeing a lot of older stories. The bad guys are armed. I will fight to protect myself. I won't fight (and risk my life) to protect a 15 year old SUV that is insured. You are free to make a different choice
And yes. Society is crazy. You are not going to solve it by getting yourself killed at 10 PM because someone broke a window on your car. Or by doing what the guy in the story above did - shooting someone and ending up in jail charged with a felony.
