Or something. Homeowner confronts burglar, gets shot at in SE Wichita | The Wichita Eagle
The intruder, who was dressed in black with a hood on, turned and fired one shot. It missed the man but hit the house. The person then took off in a light gray Caravan, police spokesperson Trevor Macy said in a news release.
- It is only stuff.
- Criminals are likely to be armed
- There are often more than one individual
You can probably think of other reasons that confronting a criminal is a bad idea. You pay taxes for police, and insurance against theft for a reason. Do you own anything worth risking your life over? I don't. If you do, it should be locked in a bank vault somewhere, not sitting in a detached garage.
And you should lock your car.
“Investigators learned that the garage was accessed via a remote garage door opener taken from the resident’s unlocked car,” Macy said.
If there is anything else this guy could have done wrong, short of actually getting in the way of the bullet, I can't think of it.
And yes I know, the article doesn't say that the homeowner was unarmed at the time of the confrontation, but do you think the media would pass up the chance to say, "See! He was armed at it did no good."
And if he was armed, I would say the same thing. It is only stuff, and not worth risking your life.
