Are the People in San Francisco Waking Up?

I doubt it will impact the way they vote on issues. Letters: Watching S.F. shoplifting gangs in action is scary. California's Prop. 47 is an invitation to loot

The clerk told me it happens all the time, and he doesn’t call the cops because if they came — and probably they would not — the thieves would be long gone. This was the second time I’ve seen a group shoplifting in a Walgreens. The first time, the security guard tried to verbally detain them. Security guards are not allowed to touch anyone. In the argument that followed, I was afraid he’d be shot.

Proposition 47 says that shoplifting of less than $950 is not a felony. And so shoplifting has become an empidemic. It isn't a problem limited to San Francisco or California.

So the good people of California, in an effort to signal how Socially Justice Aware they are, have unleashed a problem on retail everywhere in the state, but most notably in the cities. I expect that very soon, there will be no products available in a store. You will ask for what you want, and they will retrieve it for you. Once you pay, they will hand it to you. It reminds me of the "warnings" about "known to the state of California to cause cancer" lables that are on virtually EVERY product you buy. It sounds good to provide a warning, but it is insanity when every product conatins that warning.

  1. I think the "problem" comes from the Progressive belief that everyone is "normal" and that misbehavior is due either to prior treatment by society or to bad intent. Therefore, "we" will have to be patient until they either "recover" or until they are declared to be a deplorable enemy and are exterminated. In the mean time shut up and watch your step.
