Say hello to Cody Wayne Russell, and pray to God that you never encounter him, because Cody is the pluperfect example of what happens when the criminal justice system fails.
Mr. Russell was convicted for assaulting a cop; an attack on the rule of law, and order in society. A judge in Ohio sentenced him to probation. He violated the terms of the probation by leaving Ohio for Florida, where he proceded to endanger the public with his erratic driving. That only got worse when an officer tried to pull him over.
Oh, and along the way he stole a car, and a license plate from a different car.
Sorry for another angry outburst, but this business of criminals having no fear of law enforcement is the real root of the problem. If it were up to me, cop cars would have laser-sighted, remote-control miniguns mounted on the hood. There would be a trigger mechanism on the steering wheel, and once the computer aiming system had a “lock” on the target — BBRRRRRRR!! — those miniguns would unleash a burst of .50-caliber automatic fire that would destroy the fleeing vehicle.
SCOTUS in 1985 said you can't shoot fleeing suspects. Before 1985 fleeing suspects could be shot. And were. Meant they didn't flee quite so much, and that they didn't get very far.
While I'm not sure that I think giving cops miniguns is a good idea, I do agree that allowing criminals so much freedom to run, and turning them loose in the first place, is a problem.
Robert Stacy McCain needs to open up and tell us how he really feels... Or maybe not.
The mini-gun is 30 cal. Still sufficient and perfectly suitable for the job.

DeleteAnd electrically-driven Gatling guns can be found in a lot of calibers. The one that most people think of is the main weapon on the A-10, which is the 30×173 mm GAU-8/A Avenger autocannon.
