Self-defense Is Legal in South Carolina

He didn't do everything right, but he's alive and the other guy is not. Man who killed Travis Draper on Hwy 295 shot in self-defense, sheriff says

The other man pulled out his own gun when he noticed Draper pointing his at him, according to the sheriff. The man shot once at Draper, striking and killing him, then fled the scene and continued on to work.

Later he contacted authorities, and admitted what had happened. He should have called the authorities immediately. But that's life. And all's well that ends well

After completing the investigation, both the Spartanburg County Sheriff's Office and Spartanburg County Solicitor's Office came to an agreement that Draper was the aggressor in this incident. The other man who shot Draper committed no violation against the S.C. code of law and that he shot Draper in self defense.

That is a pretty speedy determination that self-defense was involved. The incident in question took place on August 5th. Some prosecutors would take months to make that determination.

Self-defense is a human-right.

  1. So? Wait 6 weeks and the prosecutor will file charges. They always do.

  2. He's lucky. Running away is almost ALWAYS seen as a defacto admission of being guilty of something.
