You Were Told That Sharing Location Data Was Dangerous

But you didn't believe it. Or it was hard to do anything about it. The Inevitable Weaponization of App Data Is Here

Experts have warned for years that data collected by advertising companies from Americans’ phones could be used to track them and reveal the most personal details of their lives. Unfortunately, they were right," Senator Ron Wyden told Motherboard in a statement, responding to the incident.

That was responding to one incident. If you're interested in the details click thru. But it isn't the only incident.

Motherboard has also shown how wide spanning the customer base for this sort of location data is, with the U.S. military and various law enforcement agencies also purchasing it, skirting the need to obtain a warrant. And although the data was based on that generated by telecom networks and not apps, we also previously spoke to Ruth Johnson, a woman who was stalked and harassed by someone who gained access to her phone's location. Johnson said T-Mobile put her "life in danger." Motherboard also tied black market location data to the spot of a triple murder.

You have nothing to hide? You've obviously never had a violent stalker. And now that the Left has decided that insisting on "2+2 = 4" is racist, you are all headed for reeducation camps.

  1. The irony is that Lefties LOVE the big tech tyrants that do this.
Almost all those tech businesses are all about selling your data.

    1. It isn't just the Left that shares their entire life with Google/Apple/Twitter/F*c*book.

Do you have VPN that you use? What do you do to keep F*c*book from tracking your every move on the internet? Do you use the "Use F*c*book to login" feature of web sites? Do you have a whole bunch of apps installed (most start with the F*c*book developer's framework, which phones home about everything you do.)

Do you ever leave your phone at home, or turn it off? Which since "turning it off" doesn't seem to be a guarantee anymore, do you have a Faraday cage to put it in?

    2. Then you are ahead of 99.9 percent of the population.

I can't get people to use a VPN because spending 3 or 4 bucks a month on security and privacy is too much. Spending more than that on a Starbucks beverage 4 days a week is perfectly fine.

I can't get people to use Signal. Because it is too hard to install an app.

I can't get people to use a password manager, because having to only remember 1 password for every site I ever log onto - even the ones I haven't logged onto in years - is apparently too complicated. They will just reuse their favorite password. No one will know. (Look up "credential stuffing.")

Forget trying to discuss the problems with F*c*book. They love them some F*c*book.

People don't back up their computers. Not even important files like their taxes from the past couple of years. That is too hard, and I have to play Angry Birds. Or something.

And that is just computer related stuff. Finances? Wills and Trusts? Medical Power of Attorney? If I think about bad things they are sure to happen. I've almost given up.

I really have given up caring if people get ambushed by their own stupidity. I have warned all my friends, and extended family about what could happen. Given advice. And now I have shut up about it. Because if they don't care, why should I?
