How Is That Reduced Bail Working Out?

Two stories today from Lori Lightfoot's Chicago of people out on bond being arrested for serious crimes.

First up today: #21: Man’s accused of shooting up another car in traffic — while on bond for gun case.

A Northwest Side man shot up another car in traffic while on bail for a pending gun case, prosecutors said Wednesday. Tyreke Howard, 23, is the 21st person to be accused of killing, shooting, or trying to shoot someone in Chicago this year while on bond for another felony.

And next: #22: Man charged with attempted murder of CTA bus driver was AWOL in felony DUI case, prosecutors say.

After some back-and-forth, the 41-year-old female driver stopped the bus and told White to get off because he would not put his mask on properly, [Assistant State’s Attorney Kevin] Deboni said.

“B*tch, I’ll blow your f*cking head off,” White allegedly said as he stepped off the bus.

Moments after the driver closed the doors behind White, three shots were fired nearby, Deboni said. Two bullets went through the bus’ front door

That doesn't include people who were charged with less serious crime, like this guy. Man charged with robbing cellular store — while on bail for gun and robbery cases.

He would have had to shoot someone at the cellphone store (or shoot at them, anyway) be included in the count.

A Chicago man was ordered held without bail Tuesday after prosecutors said he robbed a Cricket Wireless store while on bond for a gun case and on a separate bond for allegedly robbing a different Cricket location. It’s been a busy five weeks for Tony Hampton, if prosecutors’ allegations against him are true.

Because keeping violent offenders in jail would be unfair.
