He Did Everything Possible to Get Shot by Police

Bodycam video of police shooing in Rock Island, IL has been released. Updated: Rock Island Police found to be justified in fatal shooting of DeShawn Tatum.

He ran with a gun. He stole a car (I'm not sure if you can say carjacking or not). He dragged two cops with his vehicle, while others were pointing guns at him. Did he miss anything?

Sure, he was going to jail, and probably to prison. But dying was apparently his choice.

Rock Island is a fairly small city in Illinois, in the Quad Cities region on the Missouri state line. I don't remember seeing anything about riots or the like when this incident took place on April 1st, though it may have been drowned out by other riots.

But the usual suspects want to use this as an excuse to force cops to stop doing anything that looks like law enforcement.

"Are foot pursuits necessary? How effective are they at detaining individuals? How often do they result in injury or death for officers or members of the public?" he wrote in a statement. "The Rock Island Police Department doesn't even record this data so a data-driven assessment as to whether the risks related to foot pursuits outweigh the potential benefits — regardless of ethical questions, too.

Chicago has eliminated car chases, and is looking at eliminating foot pursuit. I suppose there will be a push nationwide to get these to stop as well. Because if all the bad guys have to do is run, then there will be zero law and order.
