He was described as "Out of control." Polk Sheriff: Frostproof homeowner kills intruder in self defense

Or how would you respond to an "out of control" person who forced open the front door to your home? A father, mother and three children were asleep in the home when he forced open the door.

Frostproof, Florida is a town roughly east of Tampa, about in the middle of the state of Florida. I haven't been there in some time, but it is probably best described as rural.

He was told to leave. He didn't leave. When he "ran at" the homeowner, the homeowner shot him. He walked away a few feet, and then turned and ran at the homeowner second time. He was then shot, for a second time. He died at a local hospital.

And Sheriff Grady Judd is always good for a quote.

“People have a right to be safe in their home, and when necessary, defend that safety. At this point in the investigation, the evidence indicates that the resident acted in self-defense," Sheriff Judd wrote in a statement.

The dead-guy's rap sheet includes the following:

• Sexual Assault
• Domestic Violence - Battery
• Tampering with Evidence
• Forgery
• Resisting a Law Enforcement Officer
• Possession of Marijuana
• Driving on a Suspended Driver’s License
• Violation of Probation
• Failure to Appear.

This is where I would usually write, "The investigation continues," but Sheriff Judd doesn't mess around. I always wanted to move to Polk County, just because he is possibly my favorite sheriff in the whole damn country.

Self-defense is a human-right.
