Battle Beast is a Heavy Metal band out of Finland, that I was introduced to by a comment in 2020. (Shout out to Nick!) I quite like their work. Their music would have been at home on a hard-rock radio station of the 1970s. Except for the female lead singer; radio stations in the 1970s had trouble with women in rock, especially hard rock. And also in the 80s. And in the 90s.
This is "No More Hollywood Endings" by Battle Beast. It is the title song from their 2019 album.
I'm glad you liked them. I keep coming back to them too and singing along.
ReplyDeleteI was in high school in Chicagoland in the 80s and mostly listened to WLUP the LOOP, with occasional spins of the dial to WXRT (which played entirely too much Steely Dan in my memory.) There was a lot more genre crossing, or maybe the borders weren't as defined back then. "Rock" was a pretty big category and you could hear a broader range of sounds. As I'm finding more 'metal' that I like, I'm amazed by how small the silos have gotten and how divisive and derisive the fans are. At the same time, it seems like youtube and other services with strong recommendation engines are breaking down the silos, which is a good thing. I mean, Mongolian Metal? Who knew there was even such a thing? (or should I say "Hu" knew...)

Most of what is Metal today - or a lot of it anyway - is what would have been considered just good old fashioned Rock & Roll in the 80s. There is Death Metal and Thrash which are still a bit on the outside, but this band, Nightwish, VUUR and a few others would have been as mainstream as anything.
DeleteThe Progressive Metal seems to be taking on the mantle of Progressive Rock, and there are more women singing, at least in Europe.
But at least it isn't all computer-generated with everything run through AutoTune, like 99.99% of Pop Music.
