This is an unexpected statistic. (At least to me.) Convenience store robberies up 75% year-over-year. Downtown convenience store robbers returned Friday. They brought a gun this time. | CWB Chicago
This story is mostly about a 3-man robbery crew working the area of Chicago covered by CWB Chicago, namely Wrigleyville and Boys' Town. Buried at the end are some disturbing statistics.
Convenience store robberies, which have traditionally netted only small amounts of money, are skyrocketing in Chicago as criminals turn their attention to the stores’ high-priced tobacco and liquor inventory. Robberies of convenience stores soared 75% in Chicago last year compared to 2019, according to CPD records. [my emphasis. Z-Deb]
Why unexpected? Because as the article said, convenience stores are good about not having available cash on hand. You've seen the signs. "Employees cannot access vault."
What happens when the Justice System, so called, in an area stops enforcing the law? What happens when prosecutors refuse to prosecute and judges turn violent offenders loose? You get more crime. This is apparently a surprise to the folks running the Cook County Criminal Justice System.
No police. A million police. If the bad guys suffer no consequences, then crime will spiral out of control. [Insert reference to Hobbbes here.]
