I Blame Global Warming

Because what else could cause "extreme winter weather?" Long-range snow forecast maps show heavy snow across the UK - is Beast from the East back?

Actually, the "experts" do blame global warming.

This weekend swathes of the UK have already witnessed snowfall, with the Met Office issuing a number of snow and ice warnings.

And I thought the Brits were tougher than this. They are expecting unimaginable levels of snow, approaching 20 to 21 cm, which is about 7 or 8 inches, and extreme cold of -12 degrees Celsius, or about +10 degrees Fahrenheit. In Chicago they wouldn't cancel school for 7 inches of snow, and at 10 degrees, they might consider freezing and opening the outdoor skating rinks. Cincinnati, which has more problems with snow and ice due to hills would probably close schools for a day, depending on when the storm hit, and how much time they had to clear the streets.

The cause of all this is Sudden Stratospheric Warming. In other words a Polar Vortex is going to change the weather patterns. To be fair, England doesn't usually get snow. I am less sure about Scotland. And they really don't have a good handle on driving in conditions of snow and ice. But then neither do the people of Cincinnati, and they have less of an excuse.
