University. Well, there seems to be an exception to that rule: The University of Chicago. UChicago refuses to punish professor protested for criticizing diversity, equity and inclusion efforts.
The position of the average college student today: "You will Conform. You will Obey." Glad not everyone is listening to it.
The University of Chicago has refused demands to punish a science professor for speaking out against diversity, equity and inclusion efforts.
Associate Professor Dorian Abbot recently took on the push to hire women and underrepresented minorities rather than select the best candidate for the job, bias against Chinese and Christian students, and other hot-button topics, drawing the ire of protesting students who said the scholar made them feel unsafe.
Hearing an opinion that you don't agree with makes you feel unsafe. Really? That sounds like the definition of insanity to me.
My freshman year at UChicago we read both Marx and Adam Smith. Communism versus Free-markets. You were pretty much guaranteed that to disagree with one or the other. That is kind of the point of an education, to be exposed to new ideas, so you can grow. Even ideas that you will disagree with. Or it was, back in the dark ages.
Note: The image above is the shield of The University of Chicago. (A slightly out-of-date version, apparently) The Motto, in Latin of course, is "Crescat scientia; vita excolatur" which has an official translation of "Let knowledge grow from more to more; and so be human life enriched." When I was a student, there was a brief campaign (among a few friends) to have the translation changed to "Learn a lot; You'll be better off." Sadly, it was not a successful campaign.
