Suicide vs COVID-19

One kind of death counts for more than another I guess. Suicide Claimed More Lives in October Than 10 Months of COVID-19 in Japan, Report Shows - Foundation for Economic Education.

And despite the high suicide rate, Japan is credited with doing a "good job" of managing COVID-19. All the people who died of despair, in isolation, well they don't count. Or something.

“Far more Japanese people are dying of suicide, likely exacerbated by the economic and social repercussions of the pandemic, than of the COVID-19 disease itself,” CBS News reports. “While Japan has managed its coronavirus epidemic far better than many nations, keeping deaths below 2,000 nationwide, provisional statistics from the National Police Agency show suicides surged to 2,153 in October alone, marking the fourth straight month of increase.”

Forgive me if I don't think that all those deaths add up to Japan having managed COVID-19 so well.

Like Felony murder (which the Left also hates) I believe that you are responsible for the completely foreseeable consquences of your actions. Governor Cuomo sent sick people to nursing homes, and old people died. He is responsible. The Japanese government, and others, forced people into isolation, and some of those people who were already suffering from mental illness took their own lives. What did they think would happen? Do you think they will be held accountable?

This article from April, paints the picture of what could happen, and from the data from Japan indicates it is likely what did happen. From the Journal of the American Medical Association: Suicide Mortality and Coronavirus Disease 2019—A Perfect Storm?

Secondary consequences of social distancing may increase the risk of suicide. It is important to consider changes in a variety of economic, psychosocial, and health-associated risk factors.

Economic stress, social isolation, decreased access to community and religious support, and more. These are the issues highlighted by the doctors and ignored by the politicians. Because politicians want power, and COVID-19 let them grab some.

Follow the science? Not when it interferes with us telling the population what to do every second of every day. "Shut up and do what we tell you to do!" That is the cry of the statists everywhere. Hat tip to SiGraybeard and a comment he left on a previous post.
