Proof That Electronic Monitoring Doesn't Stop Crime

A good guy with a gun stopped this crime. Robber shot by Maplewood store clerk was wearing ankle bracelet from previous holdup | Law and order | stltoday.com

He thought it would be a good idea to rob a cellphone store, but he suffered from a failure of the victim-selection process.

The store clerk was alone in the store when Dorsey walked in with a handgun to rob him, authorities said.

Dorsey waved the clerk into a back room and began loading cellphones into his backpack. They then went into a break room so the robber could look into the store to see if anyone had come inside.

The would-be bad-guy was put on electronic monitoring when he was released after being charged with robbing a university student. He is described as having an "extensive" criminal record. He has been charged with robbery and armed criminal action for this incident.

As for the clerk...

“At this point in time we see no reason to charge the clerk because he was acting in self defense, fearing for his own life and safety,” Maplewood police Detective John DeBisschop said. “However, the prosecutors will make the final determination.”

Because self-defense is a human-right.
