Uvalde School Police Chief: It's Not My Fault!

No one is responsible for anything in 2022 America. Not even the people who have the word responsible written into their job descriptions. Uvalde schools Police Chief Pete Arredondo: I didn't know I was in charge at the shooting scene - CBS News

The Texas school police chief criticized for his actions during one of the deadliest classroom shootings in U.S. history said in his first extensive comments since the massacre, published Thursday, that he didn't consider himself the person in charge as it unfolded and assumed someone else had taken control of the law enforcement response.

There is that word: Assume. Ass. U. Me. But in this case the people who ended up on the wrong end of that assumption are dead children.

Pete Arredondo, 50, the police chief of the Uvalde school district, also told The Texas Tribune he intentionally left behind both his police and campus radios before entering Robb Elementary School.

Because modern communication equipment is not useful in an emergency situation. It might produce situational awareness or something.

Can cops be charged with dereliction of duty? Sadly felony stupidity is not a criminal offense in Texas. At least not to my knowledge.

    1. If there is anything that the police and school didn't do wrong at Uvalde, I cannot think of it.

A door propped open with a rock because it was inconvenient to have to go around to the front of the building. (Yes I know the teacher who placed the rock, kicked it out of the way; she did not make sure the door was locked.)

The police chief - who is responsible for safety in the schools - didn't realize he was responsible for safety in the schools. And he left his radios.

No one had keys to the doors.

      Did I miss anything?
