DAs HATE Self-Defense

Also, self-defense is legal in Michigan. Romulus murder case dismissed after judge rules killing was in self-defense

Judge Brian Oakley with Romulus's 34th District Court dismissed the murder charge and the charge of using a firearm during the commission a felony Sept. 4 after hearing some of the evidence in the case during the preliminary examination and determining Peterson shot Carey in self-defense, said Burton-Harris [attorney for the guy charged] and Assistant Prosecutor Maria Miller.

The dead guy was the ex-boyfriend of the shooter's mother. There was a long history of domestic violence. The two had been in an argument, which escalated. Cops showed up to the scene of a shooting and arrested the guy still alive. The District Attorney then brought charges, because that is what they do. Or what they are supposed to do. But lately it seems they don't go after the real bad guys, but the legal gun owners.

Romulus, Michigan is in Wayne County, about 14 miles southwest of downtown Detroit. Romulus is home to Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County Airport.

"My client, like anybody, is happy to not have the most serious charges hanging over his head, but he is not happy about the situation," Burton-Harris said. "He's certainly not happy about having to do what he had to do. He understands and acknowledges someone lost their life. It's a very unfortunate situation."

Prosecutors are still deciding whether or not to appeal this decision, because they hate self-defense.

Self-defense is a human right, and it seems to be your legal right in Michigan.

Democrat Threatens SCOTUS Justices

From Hannah Nightingale at the The Post Millennial: Democrat donor from Alaska charged with threatening to assassinate 6 Supreme Court justices

Another supporter of ActBlue.

Panos Anastasiou, 76, has been accused of sending over 465 messages through an online portal to the Supreme Court between March 10, 2023 and July 16, 2024. Beginning on January 4, 2024, Anastasiou "began sending messages intended to threaten harm and convey threats of harm towards Supreme Court Justices 1- 6 and Family Members 1 and 2," a court filing stated. He had also donated to Democrat fundraising platform, ActBlue, dozens of times, totaling over $700.

But remember what "your betters" in the press say - Republicans are the real threat.

In a press release, Attorney General Merrick Garland said, "We allege that the defendant made repeated, heinous threats to murder and torture Supreme Court Justices and their families to retaliate against them for decisions he disagreed with. Our justice system depends on the ability of judges to make their decisions based on the law, and not on fear.

Of course he really wants decisions based on politics, but he can't say that out loud.

15 Minutes Is a Long Time to Wait If Bad Things Are Happening

New York City and 911 statistics. Data shows NYC's 911 response time is increasing, as are traffic fatalities - CBS New York

CBS New York is doing some stuff right,

A concerning factor is a significant increase in the end-to-end average response time to crime-in-progress 911 calls. In 2020, the average response time was 10 minutes, 56 seconds. In 2024, it was 15:23.

That is a 40.7% increase in the response time to a crime-in-progress. Now a lot of bad things can happen in 10 minutes, but even more can happen in 15 minutes.

CBS New York seems to be interested in only presenting the statistics as a mystery. There is not context. Were there more police in 2020, or fewer calls? Has something impacted traffic, making it harder for cops to get to the scene of a crime? These are mysteries that do not interest CBS New York.

These statistics come from the Mayor's Management Report, released by Eric Adams' administration in September. It is 558 pages of bureaucratic boilerplate, doublespeak, deflection, and, yes, some statistics for the past 5 years. I have not read it. You can find a link at the article linked at the top of this post.

I would imagine that the report contains some statement on how Mayor Adams' administration is planning to address the issues, which include shootings, gang-related activity, etc. Or maybe not. One would think that the reporter/editor of the article would have included some of that. Something along the lines of, "We are going to hire more police to address the 911 response time." Or maybe Democrats think that is the price you pay for defunding the police. Why do you want to call 911 anyway?

Calling 911 is a fine thing to do in an emergency. They can send a lot of help your way, but that help will not arrive immediately. You might want to think about what you are going to do in the meantime.

Europeans Don't Like Free Speech

From Don Surber we get the following: Musk 1, Eurocrat 0

When you mess with the bull, ...

The opening salvo from the EU was in July.

On July 12, AP reported, “The European Union said Friday that blue checkmarks from Elon Musk’s X are deceptive and that the online platform falls short on transparency and accountability requirements, the first charges against a tech company since the bloc’s new social media regulations took effect.”

EU was upset that Twitter now charges people with a blue check $8 a month — $7 by yearly subscription.

Musk responded by telling the world how the EU tried to coerce him into censoring people that the EU didn't like.

Then Thierry Breton, the one-time Commissioner for Internal Market of the EU, sent a threatening letter to Musk about silencing "hatred, disorder, incitement to violence, or certain instances of disinformation." Who gets to decide what is disinformation? Why Thierry Breton of course.

After that Congress sent a letter to the EU wanting to understand how they are threatening Americans' right to Free Speech, and an American company.

And finally, the EU, recognizing a losing battle, canned Thierry Breton.

On Monday, Breton resigned — although the letter he ironically posted on Twitter indicates European Commission president Ursula von der Leyen forced him out.

There is more, including an indictment of "newspapers that have moved away from reporting news and using paper." Click thru.

Will-O'-The-Wisp

The Omnific is a trio from Australia. Two bass players, Matt Fack and Toby Peterson-Stewart, and Jerome Lematua playing the drums. Some people object to a band with 2 basses; I like it. It might have a bit too much energy for first thing in the morning however. Give the caffeine a chance to do its thing for a few minutes, and then hit play.

I found these guys via Spotify last year. I'm guessing they were included in a playlist, probably one of the "Top 40" - or whatever playlists - though that is only a guess.

This is "Will-O'-The-Wisp" by The Omnific from the 2024 album The Law of Augmenting Returns. I find this video completely annoying. I usually do, but this one has been turned up to 11. Listen to the song, but browse a different tab.

Spotify has a series of playlists. "Rock This," "Kickass Metal" (if memory serves), and a couple of others that list the top songs by genre in terms of streams. They do a fair job of cutting through the Pop Music schlock, though some of it is still awful. Still it is a good way to find new music.

Self-Defense Shooting in New Mexico Leads to Second Body

I doubt we will ever know the entire story. Hobbs Police find dead mother during break-in investigation

He broke into his neighbors' home. The neighbors barricaded themselves in the bedroom. Eventually one shot was fired through the bedroom door. Cops showed up and he was taken to a local hospital, but he passed away.

Officers were advised of Thames’s mother, Kristie Thames, who lives with him in a neighboring home. HPD attempted to contact Mrs. Thames but were unsuccessful. To ensure welfare, officers forcefully entered the home to find Mrs. Thames dead in a bedroom.

I'm getting a Norman Bates vibe to the whole thing, but maybe I watch too many old movies.

Hobbs, New Mexico is about 90 miles southwest of Lubbock, Texas, and about 250 miles southeast of Albuquerque.

Cops are still investigating, but no one has been arrested.

Self-defense is a human-right, and it appears to be a legal right in New Mexico.

A Digital Fahrenheit 451

The powers-that-be are editing books to remove things they don't want you to think about. Does it seem familiar to you? - by Miguel Gonzalez

Frederick Forsyth wrote a number of Cold War spy novels. Several have been made into movies, include The Odessa File, The Day of the Jackal, and The Fourth Protocol. This is about that last book.

In that book there is a letter, from a Soviet Spy in Britain to Russia.

Extracted from The Fourth Protocol by British writer Frederick Forsyth. It is a fictious letter from Soviet spy Kim Philby to the Chairman of the USSR about turning Great Britain fully to Communism. The piece is full of very insightful and scary information that I can’t help but see reflected in our country.

Click thru for an image of that part of the book.

The rest of the letter is illuminating, especially the part how the Soviets infiltrated the British Labour Party ever so slowly and effectively it became a proper tool of the USSR. I would urge you to read it, but make sure you find a first edition of the book (1984-85), or you will run the risk of getting an edited version with that letter removed for reasons unknown, even to Forsyth himself who only found about this year.

That letter talks about how democracy can be overturned by zealots working for years to destroy a country. And yes, it does sound familiar.

People have not read Bradburry's Fahrenheit 451. That is because it exposes too much. Captain Beatty, in that book, talks about how it didn't start with book burning; it started by removing passages that were offensive to various groups. Eventually the entire books were deleted, because if you were made to think by a book, how could you be happy. (And so you were offended, or something.)

The bigger the population, the more minorities. Don’t step on the toes of the dog lovers, the cat lovers, doctors, lawyers, merchants, chiefs, Mormons, Baptists, Unitarians, second-generation Chinese, Swedes, Italians, Germans, Texans, Brooklynites, Irishmen, people from Oregon or Mexico.

Is this passage offensive to someone? Edit it out of the book. Do not think different thoughts, all the same thought.

This is what Bradbury himself had to say:

Fire-Captain Beatty, in my novel Fahrenheit 451, described how the books were burned first by the minorities, each ripping a page or a paragraph from this book, then that, until the day came when the books were empty and the minds shut and the library closed forever.

And then there is equality.

We must all be alike. Not everyone born free and equal, as the Constitution says, but everyone made equal. Each man the image of every other; then all are happy, for there are no mountains to make them cower, to judge themselves against. [Fire-Captain Beatty, in Fahrenheit 451]

In other words, we must all be crushed down to the lowest common denominator.

You really should read that book. (And the title was stolen from a recent comment... )

When Only Police Have Guns, Only Police Will Shoot Judges

Or something. Report: 1 dead, Letcher County sheriff arrested following courthouse shooting

Letcher County Sheriff Mickey Stines has been arrested in connection to a shooting at the Letcher County Courthouse in Whitesburg, according to a local report.

The Mountain Eagle, a local newspaper in Whitesburg, reported Stines allegedly shot District Judge Kevin Mullins in his office Thursday afternoon before surrendering himself.

There are a lot of politicians racing to get in front of microphones, but no information really.

So what gun control law would have prevented this killing?

Red of Tooth and Claw

Nature is not like it was depicted in the Disney movies of the 1970s. Wild animals are not cute and cuddly. We have a few stories that should remind us of that, but probably won't.

The first story is from Daily Mail Online. Children are left bloodied and scarred by swooping seagulls as 'hundreds' report being attacked in towns and cities across Scotland

The seagulls are moving inland in search of food, and coming into conflict with people, who probably don't know better than to leave them alone, and/or not feed them.

They include horrifying accounts of children left bloodied by the birds swooping on people and household pets and, while coastal communities are severely affected, complaints also include scores of revolting tales of the gulls feasting on rats in Scotland’s biggest city.

The hat tip for that story goes to American Thinker: Hitchcock’s ‘The Birds’ playing out for real in Scotland. He also reminded me of the phrase that forms the title to this post.

Bats have been described as “rats with wings,” but so are seagulls.

The 2nd story is out of Washington State. From KREM - Otter attacks child, drags them underwater at Bremerton Marina

According to the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife (WDFW), a woman and her young child were walking on a dock around 9:30 a.m. when the river otter pulled the child into the water. The woman said the child was underwater for a few moments before resurfacing.

WDFW officials say the otter kept attacking the woman while she pulled the child out of the water.

I wish I could give a hat tip, but I can't figure out how I tripped over that story.

And there is a list of even more stories in that American Thinker article linked above.

Disney-esque fantasies about the larger predators—e.g., coyotes, bears, lions, boars, wolves, etc. In communities that have started protecting these animals or stop pushing back against them, people are no longer safe:

We are having to relearn the same lessons our ancestors always knew: Wild animals and people cannot share the same spaces. It’s a zero-sum game.

As for "Red of Tooth and Claw," it is a quote from "In Memoriam A.H.H." by Alfred Lord Tennyson:

Who trusted God was love indeed
And love Creation's final law—
Tho' Nature, red in tooth and claw
With ravine, shriek'd against his creed—

Reporting a Rape in the UK Is a Crime

You racist you. You reported a minority man for raping you. [In your best Gretta T. voice...] How dare you! British Woman Arrested After Reporting Sexual Assault To Police - The Publica

In that place where Great Britain used to be...

To say that policing in the UK is f*cked up is an understatement of massive proportions.

This all took place in London.

In a troubling case that has raised serious questions about police handling of sexual assault reports, a woman from Warrington, Cheshire, has revealed how her attempt to report a sexual attack led to her own arrest while the perpetrator remained free to assault others for nearly two years.

Helen Ingham, 48, recently waived her right to anonymity in order to share her harrowing experience with law enforcement after reporting an assault by Ahmed Fahmy, 45, a hotel manager whose reign of terror against women spanned more than 15 years.

Why was he let off? For all the reasons that have plagued the UK for a generation or more. The cops don't want to be called racist.

The consequences of this mishandling were severe. Fahmy, left unchecked, continued his predatory behaviour.

And it wasn’t until January of 2024, nearly two years later, that he was finally brought to justice following reports of rape and sexual assault from two more women at another hotel.

The subsequent investigation revealed a pattern of behavior dating back to 2008.

Women in the UK cannot defend themselves. It isn't just guns that are illegal; self-defense of any kind is not allowed. And it appears that they can't report crimes to the police either.

The Process is the Punishment - Free Speech Silenced in the UK

In that place where Great Britain used to be, Free Speech is nearly gone.

Bernie Spofforth copied/pasted a tweet on X. When she learned it was in error, she deleted it. That didn't matter. She was arrested, jailed, and banned (by bail conditions) from using all social media. The "Professional Journalists" and activists (but I repeat myself) were mostly behind the campaign to have her silenced.

Journalists and the media organizations gained clicks and had a lot of stuff to say. People who disagreed with the government were silenced, because she was an example of exactly what will happen if you question the policies of the government.

In the end, no continued legal action was taken, because Free Speech isn't quite dead in the UK. Not quite.

This is the Mahyar Tousi TV video Woman Arrested By Starmer During 'UK Riots' Speaks Out.

They say they support Free Speech, but they mean only the speech they agree with. They say they support dialogue, but only the dialogue that agrees with their worldview, and they say they want equality, but they don't mean for people who think differently to them.

The video is only about 7 minutes; I believe it is worth your time.

Nobody Really Wanted This F-ing Thing in the First Place

In case you missed it, a new MCU TV show was released yesterday, Agatha All Along. I haven't seen it, because Disney+ is not in my budget. Neither is setting piles of cash on fire, or flushing them down the toilet, which would be a better use of cash than spending it on anything Disney, let alone Disney+.

Then there are the "purple carpet" clips on YT and X. Agatha All Along is apparently the gayest MCU production ever. OK then. Which is why The Critical Drinker asks "Who was this even made for?"

The consensus seems to be, as Drinker states, that it was made for suburban wine moms, with a passing interest in the MCU. (Talk about a niche audience!) Maybe with a side-order of the mythical modern audience. For an MCY show, there are no superheroes, it is vaguely a spinoff of a spinoff, and it is about a character that literally no one, except for people deep in the nerd culture, ever heard of before the failed TV show, Wanda Vision. It would make more sense to make a show about Amanda Waller minus Task Force X (The Suicide Squad) than to make this movie. (And that would make no sense at all.)

In other words, it is more Disney/Marvel drek. Whether it descends to the level of schlock remains to be seen.

Since we are stuck with others' opinions it is good they are entertaining.

This is Critical Drinker's video Agatha All Along - Who Was This Even Made For?

The title to this post is basically a quote from Drinker and this video.

The Critical Drinker is not the only one to have this take. Here are three:

Valliant Renegade's video seems to have been deep sixed by the YT algorithm, so I hope you will watch it. It is only 11 minutes.

Alan Ng of Film Threat also reviewed the first 2 episodes, but it is part of a 2 hour podcast. If they publish a short excerpt, I will update this post. In the meantime, here is what he said on X.

Unlike the Acolyte, there is no lore breaking because it's based on no lore. There are gay characters, but being gay is irrelevant and exists solely for virtue signaling. It's not woke garbage...it's just garbage.

Med School Researchers - Gun Control Has No Impact on Homicide Rate

They still want more gun control, of course. From Firearms News - Med School Researchers Conclude Gun Control Has No Impact on

We get a study from Duke University published in July of 2024.

Gun control laws have no impact on homicide rates. Those in the gun rights community have always known that. Now, a recent study led by researchers at the Duke University School of Medicine has substantiated it. The study looked at suicide and homicide rates involving children under the age of 18 for the period of 2009 through 2020. Using mortality data from the CDC and a database of state-level firearms laws maintained by the Rand Corporation, they examined the impact of 36 different gun control laws.

Click thru for the details.

Hat tip to Jews Can Shoot.

Despite this conclusion, the lead author of this study is calling for more gun laws. Such is the thinking of the anti-gunners.
