Demand for EVs, or Lack Thereof

Two stories about electric vehicles.

First up we have a story from Audi from Motor1. The Audi RS6 EV Is Dead On Arrival

According to insiders speaking with Top Gear, Audi has canceled the RS6 E-Tron project due to insufficient demand to justify its development.

The whole idea of a "performance" station wagon is confusing to me, but I suppose there is a market for them. Just not when they're electric.

Other luxury/performance brands are also canceling EV projects.

Ferrari reportedly delayed its second EV due to "zero" demand, and even Lamborghini’s first electric vehicle may be dead on arrival.

Dodge/Ram has avoided a costly mistake. The story is from Jalopnik. Ram 1500 REV Electric Pickup Truck Is Dead Before It Could Pile Up On Dealer Lots

If you aren't already sitting down, I promise you're going to want to do that right now. We have shocking news, and it really isn't the kind of thing you should read standing up. Citing an email sent to members of the Ram Insider+ program, Edmunds reports the Ram 1500 REV is officially dead. Yes, the fully electric Ram pickup that was initially announced with an optional 229-kWh battery will never see the light of day.

In the case of both of these vehicles, the companies cite lack of demand.

All you have to do is watch a couple of videos about towing with an electric pickup on YouTube to understand why.

Hat tip to MGUY Australia and his video More ELECTRIC vehicles CANCELLED as demand evaporates. That video is about 6 minutes.

As for the Demand, UK drivers don't want EVs even when the government offers discounts. MGUY Australia has published the video Brits STILL don't want EVs DESPITE all the FREEBIES!

There are so many reasons why your average person does not want to buy an electric car. It's the initial cost, the depreciation, the cost of insurance, the lack of range, the worries and concerns about charging. If you don't have a off-street parking where you can charge overnight, you are stuck with public charging stations, which are flaky at best.

The video is just over 5 minutes.
