Why do people listen to "educators?" These are the people who destroyed math education. These are the people who decided we didn't need phonics, and ushered in an epidemic of illiteracy. Somewhere along the way, America decided that a four-year degree was the only respectable answer to the question of what comes after high school. The plumber who just handed you a $250 bill to replace a faucet cartridge never got that message. He also doesn't have $50,000 in student loan debt. The joke, it turns out, was on the rest of us.
America didn't stop needing tradesmen. It spent thirty years telling young people not to become one.

I have several friend who kids are looking at 4 year college/trade schools. Places where you get a 4 year degree but also all the standard training you would get in a trade school. HVAC, plumbing, eleectrical, carpentry, where you at the same trime are working in that trade as an apprentice. So after the four years you have a liberal arts degree and a trade.
