Brandon Johnson May Be the Worst Mayor in America

He is certainly the worst mayor of Chicago I can remember, and I remember Michael A. Bilandic, who was appointed mayor by the Chicago Machine, after Old Man Dayley died in office. He was a disaster as a mayor.

The Police Union and the Mayor are not happy with one another. Shots fired! Police union boss calls Chicago mayor ‘piece of garbage’ for saying law enforcement a ‘sickness’ to be ‘eradicated’

The head of the union representing Chicago’s front line police officers is blasting Mayor Brandon Johnson for calling law enforcement a “sickness” that he plans to “eradicate.”

Because what Chicago clearly needs is LESS law and order. Brandon is in way over his head.

As I type this, these are the statistics for the year in Chicago.

  • Shot & Killed: 274
  • Shot & Wounded: 1217
  • Total Shot: 1491
  • Total Homicides: 325

Those stats are updated most days by HeyJackass!

Last weekend stats were down from last year, but are higher than was normal pre-pandemic.

One of the Law Enforcement tools that Brandon eradicated was ShotSpottter. One year after mayor unplugged ShotSpotter, another shooting victim dies with nobody reporting gunfire - CWB Chicago

A man was found dead over the weekend. There had been no 911 call about shots fired, or someone being shot. Could this latest victim have survived? We will never know.

Since ShotSpotter was deactivated, CWBChicago has tracked 57 victims whose shootings generated no 911 calls about gunfire or timely reports of someone being shot. That’s about one victim who would have benefited from the system every week.

As for the rest of the City of Chicago, Meep at STUMP looks regularly at the financial state of that city, not because she lives there, or is from there, but because it is such a shining example of how not to run a city's finances, in particular pensions. Chicago Pension Artificial Sweeteners: There is a big difference between making a promise and delivering on it. There is a short post, but the meat of the matter is an hour-long podcast.

  2. It says a lot, calling Brandon the worst mayor ever. He is following Lori Lightfoot, after all. You’d expect that succession to be easier than it is. I think the past mayors, while obviously corrupt, at least understood that the city still had to work for its residents. The more recent mayors just plunder the city and support their clan.

It’s a shame to see it crumble. Chicago truly was a great city, once. Single party rule is a deadly thing.
