AI Helps Scammers Build Fake College Websites

The websites then try to get high school students to apply. For a small fee. Inside a Network of Fake College Websites

Dozens of fake college websites, which appear to be connected, are pushing scams. Many of the sites appear to be built with or supplemented by generative AI.

There is apparently a website for Southeastern Michigan University. With photos of athletic programs, sections on various schools at the university, etc.

In reality, the university is as fake as some of the content on its website. And it’s part of a much larger scam fueled in part by the rise of generative AI.

Click thru for a list of the fake universities identified. So far. There are 40 of them.

Some of these were spotted because of the current problems with AI. What happens when it gets better? The fake universities were on LinkedIn, and F*c*book, and other social media sites.
