According to the Limestone County Sheriff's Office, a homeowner said 44-year-old Christopher Hovis of Hartselle was violently trying to break into their home in the 17000 block of Morris Road in Elkmont.

The homeowner said before police could arrive, Hovis kicked in their door and the homeowner shot and killed Hovis.

Elkmont, Alabama is a small town about 20 miles northwest of Huntsville.

While they are still investigating, police say that this appears to be a case of justifiable self-defense.
