How Should a 76-year-old Defend Himself and His Family from Assault?

Florida is a Bad place for Bad Guys, because the 76-year-olds are armed. Homeowner shoots burglary suspect who was attacking his wife

North Redington Beach, Florida is a town on the Gulf coast barrier islands in Pinellas County. It is about 5 miles north of Saint Pete Beach, and about 12 miles south of Clearwater Beach.

Deputies were first called at 3:16 a.m. Wednesday for reports of a man standing in the middle of Gulf Boulevard and yelling.

While they were on their way, deputies received a second call at 3:23 a.m. about a burglary on nearby Bath Club Boulevard. They say they arrived at the home to find 51-year-old Robert Jackson outside with a single gunshot wound.

He had used a large rock to break through the front window, where he met 74-year-old Sherry Treadwell, and attacked her. 76-year-old John Treadwell shot him once in the shoulder.

This is either a case of "Crazy People Are Dangerous" or "Drugs Are Hazardous to Your Health." My money is on drugs, but that is only a guess.

The guy who got shot was taken to the hospital and then arrested.

I really wish the gun-hating part of the Left would explain how it is better if these two homeowners were not armed in their own defense. I'm not expecting them to do so.
