RIP Bob Weir

Sad news, but not surprising news. Lone Star Parson: Bob Weir's Dead

Bob Weir was a founding member of The Grateful Dead. When they broke up in 1995, he was part of the group The Other Ones (later The Dead) comprised of members of The Greatful Dead. And he performed with more groups and individual artists.

Wow, at 78, and what can I say? Rest in peace Mr. Weir, and may your purgatory not involve those awful shorts you were so fond of. Yes, it's a journey in holiness, pierced through with cleansing fire. Spiritual journey aside, how could anyone, much less "Bob," play alongside Garcia? Good question.

Click thru for "Looks Like Rain" by Bob Weir from his first solo album, Ace, which was released in 1972.

This is “Truckin'” by the Grateful Dead from their 1970 album American Beauty. Bob Weir is providing lead vocals on this song.

Second Suspect Arrested in Texarkana Shooting

This was an incident that occurred during the early morning hours of New Year's Eve. Teen arrested in connection With fatal Texarkana shooting after alleged car break-In | News | KTBS

Police have arrested a 16-year-old boy in connection with a fatal shooting that followed an alleged vehicle break-in last week in Texarkana. Authorities said Friday the teen was the second suspect involved in the incident, which occurred early Wednesday morning on North Park Road. The other suspect, a 15-year-old, was shot by a homeowner and later died at a local hospital. Police have not released the names of the juveniles.

As stated at the time of the incident, the investigation is going to take some time.

The police/DA have not said what, if any charges will apply. I'm no lawyer, but the internet (including the Wiki - always a questionable source) assures me that the Felony Murder Rule applies in Texas. No one knows if will apply in this case, because as far as I can tell the DA has not listed charges, or it may be that they won't publish the charges due to the age of the suspect.

Self-defense is a human right.

More Guns, Less Crime

Anti-gun advocates hurt most. Violent Crime Declined After the Bruen Ruling, Here’s What the Data Shows

Anti-gun advocates have long held that loosening concealed carry laws would result in rampant violent crime and “blood running in the streets.” So, imaging their furor when John Lott published his book More Guns, Less Crime back in 1998. “How dare Lott write such a travesty?” they decried. “Everyone knows more guns equals more crime.”

And they doubled down on that statement after the Bruen decision, which made it easier to carry concealed.

But reality doesn't match up up that statement.

Again, the naysayers couldn’t have been more wrong. During the period since Bruen, when more Americans have begun carrying a firearm for self-defense, violent crime has dropped dramatically, according to statistics from the Real-Time Crime Index (RTCI).

Go read the whole thing. (Hat tip to Jews Can Shoot)

James Howard: The One Man Air Force

Let's start with an article from We Are The Mighty. The ‘One Man Air Force’ took on dozens of enemy fighters even after his guns ran dry

James Howard started his World War II combat career before the United States ever entered the war. He would end the war with a Medal of Honor and the nickname: the “One Man Air Force.” He was a naval aviator who flew with the Flying Tigers, then joined the Army Air Forces, where he became an ace in two different aircraft in two different theaters. He would eventually retire as a Brigadier General—quite an impressive bucket list.

James Howard had been a pilot in the US Navy. But he left to join the Flying Tigers to fight in China before America joined the war. He as going to rejoin the navy, but a bureaucrat, pissed off by his stint in the Flying Tigers, pissed off Howard in turn. So he joined the US Army Air Corps as a captain.

By January of 1944 he had been promoted to major.

On the day of the fight in question, which was January 11th, Howard had been separated from his unit, when he encountered a formation of bombers being attacked by German interceptors and fighters. He was alone. He attacked.

When asked about the decision to face that many planes, he answered...

I seen my duty and I done it.

This is a video about James Howard's flight on 11 January 1944. The Flying Killer That Made the Luftwaffe Look Like a Joke

What Do You Get When EV Range Anxiety is Wedded to Fire Risk?

Well for starters, you get a 30% decrease in your electric vehicle's range. 'Very serious' alert to Volvo drivers in UK over fears electric cars could EXPLODE into flames

This applies to Volvo EVs sold in Britain, comprising model years 2024 to 2026.

The EV motorists were told not to charge them above 70 per cent in case the batteries overheat and catch alight.

But then who wants to charge a vehicle that might catch fire in your garage, or next to your home if it "might" catch fire if you charge it "too much." At least you can control the maximum amount of charge by way of the cars' settings.

Then do you want to drive such a car?

Among them is Philip Alden, 53, who says the warning has turned his family life upside down.

He told The Sun: “I have a 15-month-old grandson I lorry around – I can’t do that now – It’s terrifying.”

Volvo has determined that "some" battery parts from one supplier could overheat during charging and cause a fire.

No solution has been found, so no recall has been issued.

Has Marvel Learned Something?

Personally I don't think the people at Disney-Marvel are capable of learning anything. They are basically religous zealots pushing the Woke Message. But somewhere in Dinsey, there must be some good, old-fashioned bean counters

This is the Critical Drinker's video Avengers: Doomsday - Have Marvel Learned From Their Mistakes? The Drinker's videos usually have some great quotable bits, but this one is full of them. Here is one that made me laugh.

But you can't please everyone all of the time. And the people who make it their business to be offended on behalf of the entire human race have already started complaining about the lack of diversity in the teasers.

To be fair, the laughter was in part due to the video clips Drinker was using at that point.

The video is 9 minutes long.

Here are some tips for not getting shot by police.

  • Don't interfere with police operations
  • Don't illegally block the road
  • Don't drive at police/hit police with your vehicle
  • Don't disregard orders to get out of the vehicle

There are probably more things you could do. This violates the John Farnam's Rules of Stupid.

Don’t go to stupid places; don’t associate with stupid people; don’t do stupid things.
  • Stupid Place - in the middle of a police operation. Check.
  • Stupid People - at least 2. Check
  • Stupid Things - driving at police. Check

You can often get away with violating one of these rules, but violate all three, and bad things are pretty much guaranteed to happen.

Why the EV Market Evaporated

Economics. Engineering. Wealthy, tech-obsessed early adopters. Government subsidies. The market for EVs was always smoke and mirrors.

This is Patrick Boyle's video Why the EV Revolution Just Stalled. The video is 30 minutes, so plan accordingly.

Hat tip to Small Dead Animals: We Don’t Need No Flaming Sparky Cars

When Tesla introduced its first model, which was a sport coupe based on a body from Lotus, I hated the idea of tax subsidies. Back then, we were taking tax money from working-class individuals and giving it to people buying a $125,000 car with two seats and no trunk that they might drive on the weekend, if the weather wasn't too bad. That was evil.

How Can a Simple EV Have Problems?

EVs were sold as more reliable. The problem is that sales pitch came from people with no understanding of electro-mechanical engineering, battery technology, or electronics. Tesla makes the least reliable used cars … but who ranks first?

Well, Tesla’s reliability issues are nothing new: suspension, electronics, and build quality problems are some of the most common woes experienced by Tesla owners. But on closer examination, you realize what’s happened here. In the study, the Teslas assessed were primarily early Model S and Model X production runs, both models that were manufactured during the company's "production hell" phase between 2014 and 2019. Teslas from these batches were notorious for suspension issues, niggles with the temperature systems, to odd build-quality problems like broken door handles.

But don't worry, the authors say, that has nothing to do with current Tesla models. Really? Build quality isn't an engineering problem; it is a management issue. Manufacturing has been around for a very long time. We know how to build consistently to a spec. You just have to want to do that.

This list was generated by Consumer Reports. I'm never sure how to judge them. Are the biased against US automakers? Sometimes I feel that way. My last Ford went to well over 280,000 miles. (I have a photo of the odometer somewhere.) I was hoping for 300,000 but I just decided it wasn't worth it. And I am certain that LARGE portions of the population - even in consumer reports - has hated Elon and Co. since he endorsed President Trump.

Now CR doesn't let you have a peek at their data, unless you sign up for a year's membership. I understand completely, they have to make a living, which is probably harder today than it was 40 years ago, before the internet age become insane.

CR focuses on 20 possible "trouble areas" and compares "a car's number of problems to the average number of problems for cars of that model year" to measure reliability and generate a ranking. The magazine’s experts subsequently determine a score by weighing the reported issues based on their severity.

What are those problem areas? Your guess is as good as mine.

You Are Only An Apex Predator, When Armed

From The New York Times: Hiker Killed in Suspected Mountain Lion Attack, Colorado’s First in Decades

Hikers found a woman’s body on a trail on Crosier Mountain in Northern Colorado, with a mountain lion nearby, according to a statement on Thursday from Colorado Parks and Wildlife, which is investigating the death. The hikers scared off the animal by throwing rocks, before confirming the woman was dead.

Of course even if you're armed, you might be killed by a mountain lion. They are ambush predators. Still, being armed would give you a better chance of survival.

Mountain lions, though elusive and solitary, are widespread in the American West, where they are known to prey on pets and livestock. Still, attacks on humans — especially fatal ones — are incredibly rare.

There is also mention of a fatal attack in California in 2024, so I suppose that was the last recorded fatal, mountain-lion attack.

I am not saying that you should not get out and enjoy nature. I am saying you should be aware of the risks. Life is full of risks. You might slip in the shower. You might meet a drunk driver coming home from the grocery store. You might be attacked by a mountain lion if you run in the mountains. None of these things would be your fault, or are under you control. You could stop bathing. You could never leave your home. That is not living.

Technology Marches On

After spending longer fighting with Windows 11 than should have been needed, I finally have a new PC that is not running Windows 11.

Inspired by Pixy Misas at Ambient Irony (@mixypisa on X) I looked at prebuilt systems. The Microcenter near me had sold out of everything I needed for a build-from-scratch system, and the prices on stuff in stock were insane anyway. I did find one of their house-brand PCs, with a decent specification, and an acceptable GPU, all for a not-horrible price. I don't even hate the case they used, though I'm sure the fans will give me problems in time.

I was speaking with the manager, while the salesman was fetching the system from the back, and he said that the prebuilt systems were priced as when they were built, so they were somewhat insulated from the insanity of current memory pricing. I guess that insanity is soon to hit GPUs as well, though they were already insanely priced.

The fight with Windows was actually not as bad as I expected, given some of the stuff circulating on the intertubes. Then again, I didn't want a dual-boot system; I just wanted to find the Windows 11 product keys. Finally found the license key hiding in a registry entry. In case I ever lose my mind and decide to reinstall Windows, and all of its AI crap, I have a valid license key, which Microsoft will probably not accept...

Things may be a bit quiet, while I get everything reinstalled, and figure out what I've forgotten to install. I had a lot of posts scheduled, so you may not notice anything.

Woman Beaten to Death in Her Own Home

People, well reporters mostly, ask after a self-defense shooting, "Was he armed?" That is not a requirement for being a threat. From ABC 6 in Raleigh we get the following story. 'Beloved' North Carolina teacher killed by intruder while on phone with 911; suspect charged

Police learned that Welsh had called 911 to say a man was inside her home. While she was still on the phone with dispatch, the intruder attacked and beat her.

Police arrived, and gave aid, but she died of her injuries at a local hospital.

The only good news is that police have arrested a suspect, so there is some chance that there will be some level of Justice. I have no idea how "soft on crime" the powers-that-be in Raleigh are.

And of course, the neighbors were shocked to discover that they live in the Real World™ and not in some fantasy land where crime is impossible.

Neighbors in the area said they don't recognize Camacho and can't believe this type of crime happened in their neighborhood.

"It's devastating for people who live in this area, it's crazy, kind of shocking. To hear about this stuff going on so close to me, I literally live right down the street here, I really don't know what I can process what I can do," says Joshua Carpenter, a neighbor to Welsh.

That is not the only neighbor to be interviewed by the press. The local CBS station had a story on this incident.

“I’m shocked because usually this is a great neighborhood,” said neighbor James Foster. “Everybody knows each other, and it’s nothing but families here, and everybody likes to come to this park and just get together and have fun. So it’s really shocking.”

Foster and his fiancée are installing security cameras for "an added layer of protection." Do they realize that while, cameras help solve crimes, they do not prevent crimes? If cameras prevented crimes, there would be no video of porch pirates, etc.

You are not protected by your zip code. Crime can, and all too often does, happen anywhere.

Believing you are protected by the dirt under your feet, "crime happens in other kinds of places," is not a healthy respect for reality.

In the second story, Foster and the fiancée state that they are considering moving because they (or at least she) no longer "feels safe" in that neighborhood. OK. But she was never safe in that neighborhood. And if they do move to another neighborhood, that also will not be built on top of the magic dirt that will make her safe. She may "feel safe," but see the comment about reality above.

A gun may not have saved Zoe Welsh's life. There are no guarantees in this life except for death and next winter's snow. And given that she was a school teacher, in an urban center, I am going to guess that she believed owning a gun would make her less safe. Her being unarmed against an unarmed man did not work out in her favor.

This is a tragedy for all concerned. Zoe Welsh was a mother, and her family will certainly be traumatized by this. She was teacher, and they are bringing in grief counselors for the students. I am not making light of the tragedy. I am merely pointing out that you are not safe, no matter where you live. Crime can impact you.

The FGC-9 (F- Gun Control 9mm) can be produced in most places with a 3D printer, some basic hand tools, and some hardware store/internet purchases of pipes, springs, etc. But I guess the bolt was particular problem. Not anymore.

The example at Impro Guns was seized in Brazil.

The image above is of an unrelated FGC-9 Mk-II. It is my understanding that the Mark 2 was easier to build than the original.

3 Hikers Die on Mt. Baldy in California

Mt Baldy, formerly Mount San Antonio, is fairly close to Los Angeles, tempting people to "go hiking" when it is a nice day in the basin. 3 Hikers Are Found Dead on Mt. Baldy in Southern California, Sheriff Says - The New York Times

The bodies of the hikers were spotted on Monday near Devil’s Backbone, a trail on Mount Baldy that is described on hiking websites as challenging and frequently covered with snow and ice during the winter.

At least one of the 3 had fallen 500 feet to his death.

Devil's Backbone is a long trail that gains enough in elevation, that the weather conditions at the trailhead can be much different from the on-trail conditions, and those conditions can change suddenly.

The Devil’s Backbone trail is 14 miles long, out and back, and gains 4,274 feet in elevation, according to the website AllTrails.com. The site advises hikers to bring crampons and ice axes — and know how to use them — when there is snow and ice.

“Without proper gear, hiking this trail in the winter can be very dangerous,” the website [AllTrails.com] said.

Crampons are spiky cleats you can attach to your hiking boots to provide additional traction on ice.

At least 14 people have died on Mount Baldy since 2020. One of those was British actor Julian Sands.

I'm not saying you shouldn't get out into nature. Hiking, boating, camping, etc. were some of my favorite activities in my youth. Recognize the limitations of your skill and knowledge and don't overmatch yourself by terrain, or weather you don't understand.

So Why rename Mount San Antonio to be Mount Baldy? Is it anti-Catholic bias, or anti-Hispanic bias? Or is it just another part of the attempt by the Left to destroy all of history?

Part-Time Lover

Not sure how I tripped over this song. Probably from social media. It was on the radio back in the day enough to make me sick of it, but hearing it decades later, it is a pretty good song.

This is "Part-Time Lover" by Stevie Wonder." It was originally on his 1985 album In Square Circle. It did quite well on the charts as it was on the radio quite a bit.

New Year's Eve Shooting in Broward County, Florida

The media keeps emphasizing the age of the guy who got shot, but if it was self-defense, that should not be an issue. It probably shouldn't be an issue anyway, but there you have it. Man claims self-defense after teen killed in New Year's Eve shooting in Tamarac: BSO

A youth was shot in Tamarac, Florida on New Year's Eve. The shooter stayed on the scene, spoke to detectives, and was released.

The teen, identified as 16-year-old Orlando Wedderburn, was taken to a local hospital with what officials initially said were potentially life-threatening injuries.

He later died from his injuries.

I read two news stories, this one, and one from the Miami Herald. Both emphasize Wedderburn's age. If this is self-defense, and the police didn't arrest anyone, though they have been known to in Broward County, then it is likely alleged that Wedderburn was doing something to paint himself as a reasonable threat of death or grave bodily injury. In other words, he will have been alleged to have been up to no good. So what does his age have to do with that?

Aside from the media wanting to say something about the horrible gun owner who defended himself from an attack of some kind. Even in Florida, you can't just shoot people for no reason, and it isn't self-defense because the shooter says so.

Tamarac, Florida is about a 15 mile drive northwest of Ft. Lauderdale. The Everglades Wildlife Management area is immediately to the west of the city.

Officials said the shooting remains under investigation, and the case will be presented to the Broward State Attorney's Office to determine whether criminal charges will be filed.

After my last post about self-defense in Broward County, a commenter pointed out that it is perhaps the Bluest county in the state of Florida. With luck, there will be another story when the DA makes his decision.

Those Oh-So-Tolerant People in Hollywood

They love all kinds of diversity, except for diversity of thought. Veteran Actor Shares Horrors of Hollywood Blacklist 2.0

Absolutely no one is shocked by this.

Hollywood’s blacklist against conservative talent is the industry’s worst kept secret.

The Left has reached that point where if you don't agree with everything they tell you to agree with, you are literally a Nazi, and so deserve to be destroyed. Not just your career, not your social media presence, they will assassinate you. Though Hollywood is mostly content to destroy your career.

For every openly conservative actor who keeps on working – think established superstars like Jon Voight, Kelsey Grammer and Tim Allen – many more either keep their views to themselves or suffer the consequences.

The latter group includes Oscar nominee James Woods, Nick Searcy, Kevin Sorbo and Matthew Marsden.

Tim Walz Abandons Governor’s Race

In the least-surprising news of the past month... Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz Abandons Re-election Bid, and Amy Klobuchar May Run Instead - The New York Times

Gov. Tim Walz of Minnesota said on Monday that he was abandoning his bid for re-election to a third term. And Senator Amy Klobuchar, a fellow Democrat, is considering seeking the office, two people briefed on conversations between the two politicians said.

Did he ever give the "I am not a crook," speech?

Mr. Walz’s decision jolts a race that had drawn an unusually large and strong slate of Republican candidates, including the speaker of the Minnesota House, Lisa Demuth, and Mike Lindell, the chief executive of MyPillow and an ally of President Trump. Republicans have not won a statewide race in Minnesota since 2006.

Battle Beast is a band that has been showing up more and more in the playlists created by the Tidal streaming service. I quite like a lot of their work.

This song is "Wild Child" by Battle Beast. It was a bonus track on the Japanese edition of the 2015 album Unholy Savior. It is a cover of a song originally by the Heavy Metal band W.A.S.P. from their 1985 album The Last Command.

More Than 1,000 Cars Burned in France

From Paul Serran at The Gateway Pundit we get the following. More Than 1,000 Cars Burned in France, as New Years' Eve 'Celebrations' in Europe Turn Into a 'Fireworks War' Between Migrants and Police (VIDEOS)

Among the multiple problems, there’s the fact that the New Years ‘celebrations’ have turned into an excuse for violent migrants to attack police, firefighters and commons citizens with fireworks, turning it into a war.

This is why we can't have nice things.

Good Guys 1, Bad Guys 0

I expect everyone in Texas to be armed. I know that they aren't all carrying weapons, but that is still the safe assumption. In rural Texas, I just might be right in thinking everyone is armed. Texas Man Shot After Crashing Through Gate and Driving at Property Owner - USA Carry

So a guy decided to use his vehicle to crash through a gate on private property, and drive toward the property owner. The property owner shot him. The guy who got shot was airlifted to a trauma center, and he is expected to survive.

In Texas, a vehicle used to threaten or cause harm can legally be classified as a deadly weapon. If an individual uses a vehicle to forcefully enter property and then drives directly at another person, that action can meet the legal threshold for an imminent threat of serious bodily injury or death. Under those circumstances, the use of deadly force may be justified under Texas self-defense statutes.

The Marion County Sheriff’s Office and the Texas Rangers have opened an investigation, but it is far from complete. No one has been arrested. Yet.

Self-defense is a human right, and this didn't take place in New York City.

Chicago Crime in 2025

HeyJackass! brings us the Year In Review

We mistakenly believed we had bottomed out in 2024, only to watch the downward trend persist through 2025. In hindsight, we underestimated the significance of replacing a pro-criminal State’s Attorney with one who simply enforces the law as written (despite pro-criminal judges still being a persistent issue).

It’s no secret that most of what’s on this site is driven by a small number of low-IQ ne’er-do-wells who’ve done well by becoming their own protected victim class from 2016-2024. Removing even a portion of them from the streets creates a noticeable ripple effect on overall numbers.

Murders were down a lot in Chicago in 2025. Shootings were also down. In fact you need to go back to 2014 to find a comparable year in the Chicago Crime Stats.

Click thru for the details, including a breakdown by race, a comparison of the number of men versus women killed, and the stats like which neighborhood was most dangerous, and #ShotInTheAss (there were 80).

The powers that be are taking a victory lap, because "crime is down." 433 people were murdered, and 1592 were shot and wounded. That doesn't sound like cause for celebration, but it is a significant improvement over the last few years.

Is Anyone Shocked That Safety of Jews Is NOT a Priority?

From Matt Margolis at PJ Media: Mamdani Goes Full Antisemite on Day One

Is it even worth saying “We told you so” at this point? There’s really no satisfaction about being right about Zohran Mamdani, and now we all have to sit and watch him not only destroy New York City but also turn it into a haven for antisemitism.

On day one of his administration, Mamdani tossed Jewish safety concerns straight into the trash. Within hours of taking office, he revoked several executive orders Eric Adams had put in place to protect the city's Jewish community and support Israel.

This isn't a new phenomenon in the Democratic Party.

I’ve been warning for years that antisemitism has become more fashionable in the Democratic Party, and I blame Barack Obama for that. He made antisemitism fashionable in the party, paving the way for the party’s increasingly radical anti-Israel and anti-Jewish agenda.

But then this is what New York City voted for.

Which Is More Disturbing, A Deliberate Attack or Crumbling Infrastructure?

Either way things are not good in Berlin. Berlin power cut leaves tens of thousands without electricity until Thursday

I didn't call it a terror attack, in part because the police are still investigating, and well, it would be an overstatement.

A fire broke out on Saturday, damaging the city’s power infrastructure and prompting a police investigation into suspected arson.

Thousands of residents in large parts of southwest Berlin have been affected.

Temperatures in Berlin are hovering around freezing, and they were expecting snow.

‘Power is expected to be restored to Berlin-Lichterfelde late in the evening on 3 January 2026.

‘Power is expected to be restored to all customers on Thursday afternoon, 8 January 2026.’

So you have a critical infrastructure component that is subject to attack, causing a multiple-day outage. You can't have technological civilization without electricity. Lights. Heat. Communications.

I wonder if they will do anything to harden the infrastructure or build some kind of redundancy. No, they won't do that. That would involve proper systems design, and no one does that. No one in politics certainly.

One More Post on 2025 Media

First up we have the Friday Night Tights panel take on the media (they cover more than movies) of year: THE BEST & WORST OF 2025 – Friday Night Tights ROUNDUP. This is the usual crew from FNT plus The Critical Drinker.

Chris Gore and Alan Ng of Film Threat are two film critics I generally trust. They cover a lot of independent movies, as that is what Film Threat was formed (decades ago) to cover. I don't always agree with their recommendations, and they don't always agree with each other.

But then the difference of opinion makes a horse race.

They published their best and worst films of 2025:

First their best movies of the year. I will make a point of watching the ones I have not seen.

And there were a lot of bad movies last year, without even touching on streaming/TV

In some cases they have artistic reasoning behind the films they like, in other cases, they just thought a film was fun. And while Alan liked James Gunn's Superman, Chris has it listed as one of the 10 worst movies of the year.

The videos are of slightly different lengths, but mostly under 15 minutes each, so that together they are less than one hour of viewing.

The Hollywood DEI Bill Has Come Due

What happens when "representation" explodes over everything? You end up with "entertainment" that is propaganda, and that will appeal to no one. Case in point highlighted by this article from Marvin Montanaro at That Park Place: LGBTQ Content Appears in Nearly Half of Netflix Kids’ Shows, New Study Finds

Now I know some of that bill has already been collected in the economy as a whole. Anheuser-Busch lost a sizeable portion of its market share in the world of beer beer. Jaguar shot themselves in the head with their woke rebrand. Any number of Game Studios (Ubisoft comes to mind) have paid a price, as has the Xbox division of Microsoft. The American comic book industry all but died a few years back sacrificing itself to woke. But this is a post primarily about Hollywood.

A new report examining LGBTQ representation in Netflix children’s programming concludes that a substantial share of the platform’s kid-rated content now includes same-sex or gender themes—prompting renewed scrutiny of age ratings and parental expectations.

41% of "family friendly" (as identified BY Netflix) content contains LGBTQ themes, including 21% of programming aimed at preschoolers.

I wonder how much of Netflix programming includes Christian, or faith themes, where they don't lampoon the faith, that is. Do they have any shows that show a classic, nuclear family with a father who isn't an idiot? (Fathers portrayed as idiots have been fashionable in Hollywood since Archie Bunker and All in the Family.) Or are they excluding that portion of the population?

So is this inclusion, or exclusion, or both?

Now, so far, this hasn't hit Netflix as hard as it has every other streaming service.

This is the Midnight's Edge video The Great DEI Reckoning: Billions Lost, Xbox Buried, & Disney's Activist Problem

Case in point, our good friend Marvin Montanaro over at That Park Place wrote a piece about studies which found that nearly half of Netflix shows aimed at kids, even preschool kids, included LGBTQ themes. Again, that is not representation. That is not reflecting what the world looks like. That is wild and extreme over

Andre's video is just over 10 minutes.

Maybe They Could Have Been Better Parents

Grief I understand, but this isn't that. Couple Charged With Threatening Armed Citizen Who Shot Their Son in Self-Defense

As usual, the relatives of dead people don't like self-defense.

As Bearing Arms reported last week, a shooting on the campus of Kentucky State University earlier this month wasn't an act of aggression, but a case of self-defense. A grand jury declined to issue any charges against Jacob Bard, who shot and killed a 19-year-old and wounded another as a violent mob attacked him and his family as they were trying to move Bard's son out of a KSU dormitory.

Ahead of the grand jury's decision, Bard's attorneys released a statement detailing their client's version of events, as well as laying out the threats that Bard and his family have received since the shooting.

The threats are coming from the dead-guy's parents.

The threats are serious enough that the sons of the guy doing the shooting have been moved to "a non-disclosed location for their safety."

Click thru for the details, including the mainstream medias refusal to report completely on the threats.

Anheuser-Busch Shutting California Brewery

What happens when a state is completely in the grips of the high-taxing Left? Businesses leave.

This is Inspector Dave's video Governor Of California PANICS After Budweiser Brewery LEAVES California!

The Fairfield, California Anheuser-Busch brewery has been open for 49 years. They officially announced in early December that they would be closing. The company said it was about modernizing operations. Others had a differing view.

Mayor Katherine Moy called California's business environment a hostile dictatorship.

The video is 12 minutes long.

This was after they closed a Bay Area distribution center in 2022.

Here is a representative news article. Anheuser-Busch closes Fairfield Budweiser plant

The country’s largest beer company is closing its last Bay Area brewing facility. Anheuser-Busch announced Thursday [11 December] morning it’s shutting down operations at its Fairfield plant early next year.

Is anyone shocked.

I looked at a couple of articles on this closure, and although most of the articles do note that Anheuser-Busch owns the Bud Light brand, no mention was made of the marketing disaster visited upon the company a couple of years back.

Fairfield, California is in the North Bay section of The San Francisco Bay Area. It is about a 30 mile drive north of Walnut Creek, or about a 35 mile drive north-northeast of Berkeley. It is about 45 miles from Sacramento.

Now it is true that Americans are drinking less beer than a few years ago, and even the craft beer industry is in decline. I'm not sure why that is, if Boomers and Gen X are drinking less, and I wouldn't be surprised if Gen Z is drinking much less than other generations. But the statement about California's business climate seems to ring true, at least to me.

EV Depreciation Is a Problem

While this entire article is interesting, I will focus only on part 4. I went back to gas after driving electric - here's what I learned

Nothing prepared me for how quickly my EV lost value. The average price of a 1- to 5-year-old used EV fell 31.8% over 12 months, equating to a value loss of $14,418, according to iSeeCars data. My trade-in offer confirmed this brutal reality.

Tesla owners found their 2023 Model Ys worth 42% less than what they paid two years ago, while a Ford F-150 truck bought the same year depreciated just 20%.

The rest of the article covers issues like:

  • Public charging infrastructure is not available
  • Range anxiety
  • Higher incidental costs - like insurance - and batter replacement
  • long road trips become a problem

Click thru for all of that, and what it felt like to go back to a gas vehicle.
