Miguel Gonzalez - When you obfuscate to avoid "stereotyping."

I have been to a lot of recording studios through the years, owned one and I am pretty sure this is not one.

Adaptive Curmudgeon - WYBDR: Burning Fuel

I’m truly in the middle of absolute nowhere. Then, for no reason at all, I enter a place with cell phone reception. I have no idea why.

My phone goes apeshit! A zillion texts have been piling up and they all ping onto my screen at once. It’s overwhelming. There’s a bill I needed to pay a week ago. There’s a doctor’s appointment reminder for next week. There’s a bunch of well wishers who’ve been sending me texts without really “grokking” the idea that I was no-bullshit off-grid. (I think there are people in 2024 who have never been out of cell service and don’t really understand the concept.)

American Greatness - From ‘Clingers’ to ‘Garbage’—Why the 16 years of Vilification?

Statisticians tell us that the new non-clinging Democratic Party finds its greatest support from those who earn less than $50,000 and those who make considerably more than $100,000. These are the rich/poor bookends that surround the reformed Republican party in between.

And finally we have the opening of V for Vendetta.

Remember, Remember the Fifth of November, Gunpowder, Treason, and Plot.

I definitely will be watching that movie. How a government used a virus to strip all freedom from its citizens, and make a boatload of money on the cure. Seems more in line with reality every year. (And doing my best to not think about the election - tomorrow is soon enough for that.)

Easier to Vote, Harder to Cheat

Can you guess how the Democrats feel about that? Georgia: How’s ‘Jim Crow 2.0’ Working?

Despite the fact that early voting has set historic records in Georgia, a certain Democrat remains permanently disgruntled: [SNIP]

As advocates of the new Georgia law have repeatedly said, it makes it easier to vote, but harder to cheat — and it’s that latter aspect of the law that Abrams and other Democrats deplore. There was massive “ballot harvesting” in Georgia in 2020, but they won’t be able to play that trick this year, which is one reason why Team Trump feels pretty confident about Georgia.

People You Know, Threats and Self-Defense

The Left loves to go on at length about how if you own a gun, you are more likely to shoot someone you know, than a complete stranger. There are reasons for that. POLICE: Suspect shot, injured after breaking into family home | CBS19

And also, people in Texas are armed. You might say that they are heavily armed.

A 38-year-old man was hospitalized after police say he was shot while forcing his way into a family member's home Friday night.

Longview, Texas is about 60 miles west of Shreveport, Louisiana, and about 110 miles east of Dallas.

It started earlier in the day, as a fight between family members. He wanted to have the last word, but I'm guessing this isn't how he planned for things to turn out.

He was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries, and charges are currently pending.

So yes, you are more likely to need to defend yourself from someone you know, or even a family member. The category of people that can be described as "someone you know" is quite large. A disgruntled ex-employee, the creepy guy from your favorite coffee shop, and ex-boyfriend or ex-girlfriend turned stalker, etc. The statistic that the Left loves to throw around isn't the win they think it is.

Research Fraud Costs Hundreds-of-Millions-of-Dollars

A lot of that fraud is paid for by tax dollars, though not all. Research fraud, Alzheimer's, and Mortality trends

This is a podcast episode by Mary Pat Campbell that covers a bit of fraud. There are also a bunch of links to other articles, one of which has the $247 million dollar number, that was the amount spent on a particular branch of Alzheimer's research, all of which was kicked off by a single paper, that was eventually was retracted due to falsification of research data.

That was one branch of research. The whole problem may be close to $1 billion in scope.

Prominent research in Alzheimer’s disease going back for decades has been found to be fraudulent, which has effects. Alzheimer’s disease has been a cause of death with an increasing age-adjusted death rate, and it’s one of the very few causes of death with a rate that’s higher for females than males (at all ages). How has this come about? And what should be done?

It took 22 years to have some of the bogus research retracted. 22 years during which the fraud stood, and grew.

There is more, and I can recommend clicking thru and listen to the 30 minute audio. (I listened at 1.25X and for a time at 1.5X normal speed.)

This is not new, and not restricted to medical research, but it is a problem. The image below is an excerpt from the 2023 Nobel laureate Katalin Kariko's book, Breaking Through.

Is Cincinnati PD the New Chicago PD?

In other words, is it completely insane, riddled with corruption, and spending money without regard for anything? Though in Chicago's case, the excess spending is more about insane amounts of overtime right now.

Cincinnati is not really a big city. It is only the third-largest city in Ohio, behind Cleveland and Columbus. You know about Cincinnati because of the pro sports teams, The Reds, and The Bengals. (What is the third largest city in Indiana, or in Nebraska?) $500,000 is a lot of money for a city the size of Cincinnati.

The police chief has decided that instead of honoring a business decision to send all 5-year-old service weapons back to Smith and Wesson for a discount on their replacements, they will instead destroy all of the service weapons, and buy new. I'm not sure why they think service weapons, most of which get used only at their yearly qualification (I'm assuming that Cincinnati PD has to do a yearly firearm qualification - I know it is dangerous to do so) need to be replaced every 5 years, but then I'm not a bureaucrat, and I know a little about firearms.

This is the Liberty Doll video Activist Cops Cost Taxpayers $500K

On the subject of Cincinnati Police she has the following to say:

People that have no problem enforcing unconstitutional laws, that arrest journalists for filming crime scenes, that arrested people for not social distancing in 2020, have officers drunk driving with expired plates, people dying of stab wounds during SWAT raids, arrest people for filming them during arrests, and also allegedly threatening to shoot them for filming, have officers involved in Narcotics money laundering schemes at nightclubs, and have 56-year-old officers using the police data system to get the phone numbers of 19-year-old women, are talking about not trading in their Department weapons and choosing to spend an extra $500,000 of taxpayer money because they're worried about "moral consistency."

Liberty Doll has the receipts for all of those instances. Watch the video.

Faster

Within Temptation is a Dutch (don't worry - they sing in English) Symphonic Metal band. It was started in 1996 by lead singer Sharon den Adel and guitarist Robert Westerholt. I love the fact that he worked in Human Resources before his music took off. (He got to quit his day job.) Though he only does studio playing, he is the band's main composer.

As for the rest of the band, Ruud Jolie plays lead guitar, Stefan Helleblad plays rhythm guitar, Mike Coolen is the drummer, Martijn Spierenburg is the keyboardist, and Jeroen van Veen plays bass guitar.

While I never have trouble understanding Sharon den Adel, here is a link to the lyrics.

This is "Faster" by Within Temptation from their 2011 album The Unforgiving.

Another Failure of the Victim-Selection Process

The bad guys are not getting the memo that homeowners are armed. Lenoir County homeowner shoots suspect during attempted vehicle break-in

A man who is suspected of breaking and entering into a vehicle at a home on Will Baker Road was shot by the homeowner and is in serious condition at a Greenville hospital.

A man who identified himself as Ryan Lee Burd, 39, of Morrisville was discovered on the side of Will Baker Road by Lenoir County Sheriff’s Office deputies, who were responding to a breaking-and-entering call.

Lenoir County, North Carolina is about an hour and a half drive southeast of Raleigh.

The guy who got shot was airlifted to a trauma center, and is in serious condition.

The DA will make any determination on charges, but as far as I can tell, the homeowner was not arrested.

That is because self-defense is a human right, and it seems to be your legal right in North Carolina.

Federal Judge Strikes Down Public Housing Ban on Firearms

In all of the election insanity, I didn't see anything on this court case out of New York. FED. JUDGE SIGNS PERMANENT INJUNCTION - Second Amendment Foundation

That means that public housing authorities cannot ban tenants or their guests from being armed for self defense. This ruling is from U.S. District Judge Glenn T. Suddaby with the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of New York

A federal judge in New York has issued a permanent injunction against the Cortland Housing Authority prohibiting any sort of firearms ban against CHA tenants, in a victory for the Second Amendment Foundation and its fellow plaintiffs.

SAF was joined in this action by three private citizens, Robert Hunter, Elmer Irwin and Doug Merrin. They are represented by attorneys Edward Andrew Paltzik, Serge Krimnus and Meredith Lloyd at Bochner PLLC in New York City.

If the Cortland Housing Authority doesn't appeal, and who can tell at this point if that will happen, then I expect a law suit in New York City, and they will fight tooth and nail to keep the population disarmed, because that is what tyrants do.

A small step? Perhaps.

The hat tip goes to the Armed Attorneys YouTube channel, and the video Breaking News: The Post Office Carry Ban Fight Begins! In which they note, that since public housing is often a dangerous place, you might want to be armed.

And they also note that U.S. District Court for the Northern District of New York is generally considered to be hostile to gun owners and gun rights.

There Are Reasons No One Trusts the Media

Andrew Malcolm at RedState has a disturbing, but not surprising, look at the state of Journalism. It's Not That Hard for Media to Cheat; How to Fight Back

Despite all the liberal talk about the importance of diversity in everything, media joined with Biden agencies in a conspiracy to suppress online conservative news, including here at RedState.

They successfully pressured social media to adjust algorithms accordingly, which reduces revenues and the financial viability of media that doesn’t follow accepted narratives. So, targeted media had to develop alternative sources of income.

Government and industry cooperating for social control used to be called fascism.

From Jason Blair inventing things at the NY Times, to Janet Cooke winning a Nobel Prize for a story about youth, who didn't exist, and CBS editing of the Kamala Harris interview (and refusing to release the whole, unedited version), there are examples of why we don't' trust the media, and how we got here. And also the risks it poses to freedom. There is a reason for the 1st amendment, and that is that the press is supposed to keep government honest, not cover for them.

Read the whole thing, because there are some suggestions for how to fight back.

Plans for New 3D Printed 9mm Firearm Released

From Impro Guns we get the following news. Rogue-9 : Advanced 3D Printed 9mm Firearm At Home

The 31st saw the release of what is probably the most refined and easily made 3D printed semi-automatic firearms offered for download so far. The Rogue-9 is a compact and improved ‘remake’ of the FGC-9 (currently arming thousands across the globe). Like the FGC-9, it requires no restricted firearms parts and can be made in any home, anywhere in the world using basic hardware store supplies.

I haven't had a chance to look at the design, beyond the image below, or search for videos of anyone firing it, but an improvement to the FGC-9 is a good thing. And the fact that the 3D models include jigs to make parts- that's known as tooling - is even better.

As the British and Australian governments clamber to ban toy guns for being easily ‘convertible’, developments like the Rogue-9 will show all efforts to slow down the incoming tidal wave of advanced DIY arms to be completely futile.

Election Fraud Continues

The New Neo brings us an update on people doing bad things. Election fraud allegations: here, there, and everywhere

(2) In Michigan, there were reports of many duplicate ballots, but “Lara Trump said on X that the RNC’s election integrity team investigated the matter and determined that a ‘glitch’ was to blame. The duplicates will not be counted.”

This “glitch” was caught. But the existence of the glitch is troubling, and I don’t see why some glitches wouldn’t pass undetected despite attempts to catch them.

There are more, including the bit from Pennsylvania covered this morning.

Texans Are Still Armed

Bad guys are still getting shot. You would think after all this time, they would have seen the memo. Fort Worth PD: Homeowner shoots person during attempted break-in | WFAA

Texas — One person was shot twice by a Fort Worth homeowner during a possible attempted break-in, police said.

Cops are convinced it is self-defense, but cops don't make determinations about charges. Still, this happened in Texas, and not in New York City.

Fort Worth police said the person who was shot was taken to the hospital with "what are believed to be non-life-threatening injuries."

I wonder if he knows how lucky he is to be alive.

Self-defense is a human right, and in Texas, it seems to be your legal right as well. Good Guys 1, Bad Guys 0.

Warning Shots Are Not Recommended

They may also be illegal in some jurisdictions. Florida Man Shot and Killed After Driving Truck Toward Armed Homeowner Who Had Fired Warning Shots - USA Carry

The conflict began when 47-year-old Marcus Blicker followed and swerved at two vehicles driven by a neighbor’s son and his friend as they passed his house. Feeling threatened, the son called his father, who then emerged from the house with a rifle as Blicker pulled into the driveway, shouting threats. The father, in an attempt to deter Blicker, fired warning shots into the air. However, Blicker did not retreat; instead, he reversed momentarily before accelerating his truck directly toward the armed homeowner and another bystander.

So. Firing warning shots did not stop the confrontation. It doesn't end there.

Firing warning shots is not considered an effective method of de-escalation in a self-defense scenario. Legally, the discharge of a firearm is treated as the use of deadly force, whether aimed at a person or fired into the air.

If you're going to fire a weapon, it had better be because you are trying to stop an imminent threat, not convince someone you're serious.

Is NYC Falling Apart?

There were 2 stories that I didn't see. I should probably pay more attention to "general news," but so much of it is insane.

The first is about exploding sidewalks. Caught on video: NYC manhole explosion causes sidewalk to buckle.

The sidewalk exploded, throwing bits of concrete up into the air. No one was hurt. (The embedded video below includes the security camera video of the event.) That happened on Friday the 13th of September.

Then a contractor drilled a hole through the ventilation duct of The Queens–Midtown Tunnel, that connects Midtown Manhattan with Queens under the East River. This caused the tunnel to be shut down. The embedded video below also contains a section on what that leak looked like, before they got it fixed. NYC river water floods into Queens Midtown Tunnel, snarling traffic and terrifying drivers.

MTA CEO Janno Lieber said a city-funded private contractor caused the damage while drilling to find pylons for the East River greenway and that the hole in the roof was 2½ inches in diameter, according to Fox News.

That happened on September 4th.

This is the Cash Jordan video NYC Sidewalks are Exploding… Why?

Neglect is the real thing that we're fighting against here.

Election Fraud in Pennsylvania

From The Other McCain - Election Fraud: Democrat Firm Identified as Source of Suspicious Voter Registration Forms in Four Pennsylvania Counties

Lancaster County, Pennsylvania found 2500 fraudulent voter registration applications. Everything from fake names, and fake addresses to forged signatures.

In addition to Lancaster County, similar bogus registration forms were reported in York, Monroe and Berks counties. These were not, as some mistakenly said, fake ballots, but rather voter registration forms which county officials detected as suspicious. Of course, when Donald Trump posted a social media rant about it, all the liberal news media jumped up to accuse him of spreading “misinformation.”

Floridians are Heavily Armed

You could file this under, "Another failure of the victim-selection process." Woman shot, taken to hospital following reported SUV burglary outside Oakland Park home - WSVN 7News

Deputies were called to the scene of a shooting in the early morning hours on Sunday, 27 October.

Responding deputies arrived at the home to find 31-year-old Ruika Abdulrahman suffering from a gunshot wound on her arm.

Deputies provided first aid, and paramedics with Oakland Park Fire Rescue transported her to a local hospital. Her injuries were not life-threatening.

Oakland Park, Florida is a city in Broward County, Florida. It is nearly completely surrounded by Fort Lauderdale. When I first moved to Fort Lauderdale, I thought it was a neighborhood in that city.

A preliminary investigation revealed the incident was related to the burglary, and Abdulrahman was arrested.

Abdulrahman has since been charged with burglary of an occupied dwelling

The homeowner has not been arrested.

Another Sign of the Complete Breakdown of Law and Order in Chicago

I think this qualifies as mayhem. Donut-spinning 'takeovers' jam Lake Shore Drive, intersections citywide - CWB Chicago

A street takeover closed the northbound lanes of Lake Shore Drive early Sunday morning as spectators formed a circle in the road to watch drivers spin donuts in an intersection just south of Soldier Field. Additional takeovers were reported throughout the city overnight and some officers reported that participants shot fireworks in their direction, with at least one person winding up in Chicago police custody.

"At least one person..." That would seem to imply that the cops didn't even try to impose order, because if they did, many people would have been arrested.

For an idea of what Lake Shore Drive used to be, see It Really Was a Great City from the 357 Magnum Archives.

A for Vote Trump Is a Vote Against the Mainstream Media

The media really seems to be incapable of reading the Nielsen Reports on ratings. From The Other McCain: Vote Trump, and the Media Will Die

There is no better argument for electing Trump again — to announce, in no uncertain terms, that “the mainstream media is dead.”

How many people (not in airports) actually watch legacy media like CNN? I have a TV, I even stream movies to it from time to time, but I don't have cable, or streaming access to local news, or even an outdoor antenna hooked up at the current time. Sitting down to watch the news? Not hardly. I check national headlines, I check the local weather. I follow the topics that interest me. None of it comes from CNN, Fox MSNBC, or the national nightly news programs.

I suppose I do have access to network news by way of Pluto TV, and while I do watch Pluto (or rather, I have it on while I'm doing other stuff), I never watch network or even local news.

The last time I watched local news was when Hurricane Milton was bearing down on Florida, I was watching local news from the Tampa Bay area. Watching local news in an area impacted by hurricane is by far the best way to find out exactly what is going on. The Weather Channel is all about making things look worse than they are. The national news is staffed by people who are confused about the difference between sustained wind speeds and gusts. Local news on the ground in Texas, or Florida, typically understands hurricanes, is interested in getting the most accurate info out there, and all they have to do is look out a window to give you an update.

VOTE TRUMP AND THE MEDIA WILL DIE!

That’s a winning message, I think.

Friday Links - 1 November

The Other McCain starts us off with BOOM! We Are So #Winning!

Does a Retired Cop Have a Special Status?

Or is a retired police office just a regular Concealed Carry License holder? Chicago shooting: Retired Chicago police officer describes shooting suspected West Side car thief in Austin - ABC7 Chicago

Austin, in this case, is a neighborhood on the west side of Chicago. It is about 5 miles due west of the Loop.

This is the second time a retired officer has fired shots at someone trying to break into cars along that same block.

The retired Chicago police officer, who served 30 years on the force, said his neighbor, Terrell Jackson, called to alert him when someone was breaking into his car.

The guy who got shot is expected to be OK, and he was arrested.

Austin is currently listed by HeyJackass! as the most dangerous neighborhood in Chicago. It has seen 47 homicides, and 157 people shot and wounded, which I believe does include this incident. 7.16 square miles should not be this dangerous.

When the Press Hate Freedom of the Press

From First Street Journal we get the following. Journolism: When the credentialed media fail in their duties

A free press, and freedom of speech, is important to a free society. That is the reason that it is enshrined in the 1st Amendment to the constitution. But what happens when all of the press is in the pocket of one political party? That situation doesn't help the cause of freedom.

The members of the credentialed media mostly knew of President Joe Biden’s continuing mental decline, but, rather than “hold(ing) the powerful to account” and “speaking truth to power,” they kept their mouths, and keyboards, quiet. The stories of Mr Biden’s slow descent into dementia were many and obvious, but only in independent blogs and on social media; of the credentialed media, the New York Post is the only one I can recall which ever mentioned it.

And so with almost none of the legacy media telling the truth about Biden, and working overtime to discredit anyone who was, the bureaucrats were free to carry on expanding their power.

A Mathematical Pattern in Nature We Just Found

This is an interesting finding. Filling a plane (or 3 dimensions) with shapes that have soft corners. (See the video for how that "soft corner" property is defined.)

Mathematicians have for the first time described a new pattern in nature. I don’t want to say they “discovered” it because it’s been there all along. Probably sipping tea and quietly judging us for taking so long to notice.

This is an interesting finding, because since these shapes are used a lot in nature, it likely means that there are structural reasons for their use. This might have uses for man-made structures.

This is Sabine Hossenfelder's video A New Pattern in Nature
